Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Vice President – Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A;) to lead the M&A; origination and deal-sourcing agenda for the organization. The role will be responsible for identifying, scouting, and developing a pipeline of strategic acquisition and investment opportunities across the NBFC and broader financial services ecosystem.

The individual will be expected to build strong relationships across the market, including promoters, business owners, NBFCs, fintechs, financial institutions, investment banks, private equity funds, venture capital funds, family offices, and other relevant intermediaries, to proactively identify potential acquisition and strategic investment opportunities.

The role will involve evaluating the strategic fit of potential targets, developing initial transaction theses, assessing market opportunities, and working closely with senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders to progress qualified opportunities into the transaction pipeline.

Principal Accountabilities

1. M&A; Origination & Deal Sourcing

- Lead the identification and origination of potential M&A; and strategic investment opportunities aligned with the organization’s growth strategy.
- Proactively scout the market for potential acquisition targets across the NBFC and financial services ecosystem.
- Identify opportunities across areas such as NBFCs, lending businesses, fintechs, digital lending platforms, housing finance, consumer finance, MSME lending, vehicle finance, microfinance, and other relevant financial services segments.
- Build and maintain a robust and actionable M&A; pipeline of potential targets.
- Develop a robust understanding of the financial services market, emerging business models, competitive landscape, and consolidation opportunities.
- Track distressed, underperforming, or strategically attractive assets that may present potential acquisition opportunities.

2. Market Intelligence & Target Identification

- Conduct continuous market mapping to identify potential acquisition targets and emerging opportunities.
- Develop target lists based on defined strategic themes, business segments, geography, product capabilities, customer segments, and technology strengths.
- Monitor industry developments, regulatory changes, competitive activity, and market trends to identify potential M&A; opportunities.
- Develop market intelligence and insights on potential targets, including business profile, ownership structure, financial performance, scale, market position, and strategic relevance.




- Maintain a comprehensive database of potential targets and periodically refresh the opportunity pipeline.

3. Relationship Building & Network Development

- Build and maintain strong relationships with promoters, founders, shareholders, CXOs, investment bankers, M&A; advisors, private equity and venture capital funds, family offices, and other market participants.
- Develop a strong network within the NBFC and broader financial services ecosystem to gain early visibility into potential transactions.
- Establish relationships with intermediaries and advisory firms to create a consistent flow of proprietary and off-market opportunities.
- Represent the organization in relevant industry forums, conferences, investor interactions, and networking platforms to enhance market visibility and deal sourcing.

4. Opportunity Assessment & Initial Evaluation

- Conduct preliminary assessment of identified targets to determine strategic fit and attractiveness.
- Develop initial investment theses and opportunity notes for shortlisted targets.
- Evaluate potential targets based on business model, product portfolio, customer base, geographic presence, asset quality, AUM, profitability, capital position, management quality, regulatory standing, and growth potential.
- Assess potential synergies and strategic rationale for acquisitions.
- Undertake preliminary valuation assessment and transaction feasibility analysis in collaboration with internal finance and strategy teams.
- Prepare concise opportunity briefs and recommendations for senior management review.

5. Deal Origination Strategy

- Develop and execute a structured M&A; origination strategy aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and growth plans.
- Identify sectors, business segments, and target profiles that can accelerate the organization’s growth, strengthen its product portfolio, expand its customer base, or enhance geographic presence.
- Build thematic acquisition pipelines based on strategic priorities.
- Identify both on-market and off-market opportunities and proactively initiate conversations with potential targets.
- Track and manage the M&A; funnel from initial identification and outreach through qualification and management discussions.

Stakeholder Management

- Work closely with the CEO, CFO, business heads, strategy, risk, legal, compliance, and other internal stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and translate them into M&A; opportunities.
- Present shortlisted opportunities and initial investment theses to senior management.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate preliminary discussions with potential targets.
- Build credibility and trust with promoters, founders, shareholders, and senior management of target companies.

7. Transaction Support

- Work closely with internal M&A;, finance, legal, risk, compliance and business teams once an opportunity moves into the active transaction stage.
- Support preliminary due diligence, valuation, transaction structuring, and negotiations as required.
- Coordinate with external advisors and transaction partners during the evaluation and execution process.
- Support preparation of investment memoranda, management and board committee presentations, and approval documents.
- Ensure a smooth handover of qualified opportunities from origination to the transaction execution team.

Work Experience

- 10–15+ years of relevant experience in M&A;, Investment Banking, Corporate Development, Private Equity, Corporate Strategy, or Financial Services.
- Robust experience in M&A; origination, deal sourcing and completed transactions, preferably within the NBFC, banking, lending, fintech, or broader financial services sector.
- Proven track record of building and managing a robust M&A; pipeline and sourcing acquisition opportunities.
- Robust relationships and network across promoters, founders, financial institutions, investment banks, PE/VC funds, family offices, and M&A; advisors.

Qualifications

1. MBA / PGDM from a reputed institution, preferably with specialization in Finance or Strategy.

CA / CFA or equivalent qualification would be an added advantage.
