We are looking for a Tax Analyst to support and manage the organisations Direct Tax and Indirect Tax matters. The role will involve end-to-end handling of tax compliance, assessments, tax opinions, advisory matters, and representation before tax authorities. The candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and government authorities to ensure timely compliance, effective tax management, and mitigation of tax risks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Direct Tax
- Handle end-to-end Direct Tax compliance, including preparation, review, and filing of income-tax returns, TDS/TCS returns and other applicable statutory filings.
- Assist in tax assessments, scrutiny proceedings, notices, and related correspondence with the Income Tax Department.
- Prepare responses to notices and queries raised by tax authorities and coordinate with internal teams and external advisors.
- Assist in tax litigation and representation before the Income Tax Department and other applicable authorities.
- Conduct tax research and analyse provisions of the Income-tax Act, rules, circulars, notifications, and judicial precedents.
- Prepare tax opinions and advisory notes on various business transactions and proposed arrangements.
- Identify potential tax exposures and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Support in tax planning and assessment of the tax implications of business transactions.
1. Indirect Tax
- Manage and support GST compliance, including preparation/review and timely filing of GST returns and other applicable statutory returns.
- Monitor GST reconciliations, including reconciliation of purchase records, input tax credit and GST returns.
- Handle GST notices, assessments, audits, investigations, and departmental correspondence.
- Prepare submissions and responses to notices and assist in representation before GST authorities.
- Provide tax advisory on GST implications of business transactions, contracts, invoices, and other commercial arrangements.
- Conduct research on GST laws, notifications, circulars, advance rulings, and judicial decisions.
- Assist in identifying and resolving indirect tax risks and compliance gaps.
1. Tax Advisory &
- Opinions
- Provide timely Direct and Indirect Tax advisory to business, finance, procurement, legal, and other internal stakeholders.
- Analyse tax implications of new business initiatives, contracts, transactions, restructuring, and commercial arrangements.
- Draft concise and well-supported tax opinions, advisory notes, and internal tax memoranda.
- Keep the organisation updated on significant changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the business.
1. Assessments &
- Departmental Representation
- Coordinate and manage tax proceedings, including notices, assessments, audits, appeals, and other departmental proceedings.
- Prepare submissions, documentation, reconciliations, and supporting evidence required during proceedings.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants and legal advisors, wherever required.
- Attend meetings/hearings with tax authorities and represent the organisation before the relevant authorities, as authorised.
- Maintain proper records of ongoing and completed tax proceedings and monitor timelines and action points.
1. Tax Governance &
- Risk Management
- Maintain a tax compliance calendar and ensure timely completion of statutory obligations.
- Identify tax risks and recommend appropriate controls and corrective actions.
- Maintain proper documentation and records supporting tax positions taken by the organisation.
- Assist in internal and external tax audits.
- Prepare periodic reports on tax compliance, assessments, litigation, exposures, and key tax matters for management.
Key Skills &
- Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of Indian Direct Tax and GST laws.
- Experience in tax returns, assessments, notices, audits, opinions, advisory, and departmental representation.
- Solid tax research and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret tax legislation, circulars, notifications, and judicial precedents.
- Good drafting skills for tax submissions, responses, opinions, and advisory notes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple tax matters and meet statutory deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and relevant tax/compliance platforms.
- Attention to detail and a strong understanding of tax risk and compliance requirements.
