IBM Storage Expert / Mainframe Systems Engineer

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Storage Administrator to manage and optimize enterprise IBM z/OS storage environments supporting mission-critical banking and financial systems. The role involves storage engineering, performance tuning, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, security, automation, and support.

Key Responsibilities:

- Architecture & Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain enterprise storage environments including IBM DS8000, FlashSystem, TS7700, DASD, tape subsystems , tiering, and HSM. Support capacity planning and DR strategy.
- DFSMS Administration: Configure and manage DFSMS, ACS routines, Storage Groups, Data Classes, Management Classes, and Storage Classes .
- Performance & Troubleshooting: Monitor and optimize storage using OMEGAMON, TPC, Sysview, CA-Disk , and resolve complex I/O, allocation, and performance issues.
- Security & Compliance: Manage storage encryption, RACF/ACF2 controls , and regulatory compliance including GDPR/PDPO requirements.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Administer DFSMShsm, DFSMSdss, FlashCopy, PPRC/Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, XRC , backup validation, DR testing, and cyber-resiliency strategies.
- Storage Optimization:



Provision and optimize storage resources, including FBA and CKD device management.
- L3 Support & Mentoring: Serve as the highest escalation point, perform RCA, and mentor junior engineers.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with business teams and vendors.
- Automation & Modernization: Support z/OSMF, cloud storage integration (S3-compatible) , and automation using Ansible/Puppet .

Required Skills & Experience:

- 8-10+ years of IBM Mainframe Storage Administration experience in large enterprise environments.
- Expert knowledge of DFSMS, DFSMSdfp, DFSMShsm, DFSMSdss, DFSMSrmm (or CA-TLMS/CA-Dynam equivalents).
- Robust expertise in z/OS, JCL, SMP/E, IOCDS/HCD, z/OSMF .
- Hands-on experience with DS8000, FlashSystem, TS7700, Dell EMC, Hitachi storage , replication technologies, and DR solutions.
- Experience with storage monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON, TPC, Sysview, CA-Disk, FDR/ABR .
- Proven experience in data migrations, hardware refreshes, DFSMSdss DUMP/RESTORE , and capacity planning.
- Knowledge of GitHub, Jenkins, Scrum, JIRA, and Confluence is preferred.
- Experience with storage encryption, RACF security, and regulatory data retention policies
