Role Summary The Stair Detailer focuses exclusively on designing and detailing miscellaneous steel egress systems, including multi-story stair towers, pan stairs, grating stairs, handrails, guardrails, and balcony systems.

This role bridges the gap between the primary structural frame modelers and the architectural requirements of multifamily and commercial buildings. The ideal candidate ensures all stair and rail assemblies conform strictly to NAAMM, AISC, OSHA, ADA, and local USA building codes.

Core Responsibilities

- Detail Stair Systems: Model and detail multi-flight egress stairs, monumental stairs, industrial ladders, and miscellaneous site steel using drafting or modeling platforms.
- Review Architectural Specs: Analyze architectural drawings and floor plans to calculate accurate stair rises, runs, clearances, and landing elevations.
- Ensure Code Compliance: Verify that all handrail profiles, guardrail spacing, and stair treads strictly meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)



and IBC egress regulations.
- Generate Fabrication Drawings: Produce highly detailed, clean 2D shop drawings and piecemark assemblies for miscellaneous steel fabricators.
- Coordinate Structural Fits: Coordinate with the primary structural modeling team to ensure stair stringers and hangar plates align perfectly with structural beams and concrete embeds.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of dedicated miscellaneous steel detailing experience, with a heavy emphasis on stairs and railings for the USA market.

• Software: Proficiency in Tekla Structures (miscellaneous environments), Advance Steel, or

AutoCAD/SSD detailing packages.

• Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of NAAMM (National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers) standards, AISC, OSHA, and ADA guidelines.

• Skills: Exceptional mathematical skills (specifically trigonometry for stair calculations), strong spatial awareness, and acute attention to ornamental layout details.
