Specialist/ Senior Specialist Structures, Offshore Wind Energy
Chennai
Permanent
Do you want to join one of the leading engineering consulting companies, creating value for customers, people, and societies worldwide? Would you like to be part of the growing offshore wind industry? Are you an experienced engineer who can be a part of providing solutions for customers in the offshore wind foundation market? Then, we are looking for you!
Join our Renewable Energy Team in Chennai
We are part of the Wind Energy & Renewables department, consisting of 200 enthusiastic colleagues working from India, Denmark, Germany, Norway, South Korea, and Taiwan, while collaborating closely with colleagues in the United Kingdom and North America. Since 1980, we have been involved in more than 1,000 wind power projects in 70 countries. We have a proven history of making wind energy solutions possible even under the most complex conditions – deep waters, challenging soil conditions, and regions with high seismic activity and typhoons/hurricanes.
COWI's offshore wind energy business is rapidly growing and that is why we are looking for Steel Structural Engineers to join our Offshore structures team.
Secondary steel and topside design play a crucial role in offshore wind topside foundations, ensuring safe access, structural integrity, and long-term durability. It’s where engineering meets real-world challenges. The discipline offers the opportunity to be creative, think outside the box, and develop innovative solutions that improve functionality, ease fabrication, and enhance sustainability.
Every project presents a current challenge, making secondary steel an exciting and evolving discipline in offshore wind.
In this role, your key responsibilities will be to:
- Design steel structures such as internal/external platforms, boat landings, topsides, access arrangements, anode cages, topsides for onshore/offshore substations etc., and deliver inventive and effective designs aligned with project needs.
- Develop layout and general arrangement of secondary steel along with analytical models, calculations,
reports and specifications aligned with latest health and safety standards for offshore wind foundation design.
- Lead a team of steel engineers and collaborate with BIM engineers, Project Managers, Discipline Leads and other stakeholders in conceptual, FEED and detailed design projects.
- Participating in knowledge transfer and contribute to technical proposals.
Your Skills, Our Team. Together we design the future.
Success in this role starts with a collaborative mindset—working seamlessly with colleagues, partners, and customers while building strong relationships through respect and delivering on promises. You embrace new ideas, continuously seek improvement, and adapt to evolving challenges.
To support your transition, we provide training on essential software and hands-on assignments to integrate you into projects smoothly. However, the preferred competencies for this role are:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Structural, Marine Engineering or similar discipline.
- 10+ years’ experience in design of steel structures and connections. Experience in offshore wind or oil & gas or OSS topsides is advantageous.
- A track record of applying your understanding of structural engineering principles, hand calculations/sketches, and fabrication/construction process to produce effective designs inline with design standard requirements such as European, NORSOK, American, Indian or any other international standards.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team of engineers to deliver work packages. Good communication skills in English with experience coordinating across disciplines and with stakeholders, both in person and remotely.
- Good knowledge in review of 3D CAD models in Tekla, Revit, Navisworks, or similar.
- Knowledge of advanced engineering concepts such as Fatigue, Dynamics, Non-Linear analyses etc. as well as experience in a software package such as e.g. Robot, STAAD-PRO, IDEA StatiCa, Abaqus or similar is advantageous
