Shopify App Engineer

Company: Togethr

Role: Shopify App Engineer / Shopify Platform Developer

Employment: Full-Time

Experience: 36 Years Preferred

Location: Noida / Delhi NCR

About the Role

Togethr is looking for a strong Shopify App Engineer to own and evolve our Shopify integration layer.

This is not a Shopify theme-development role.

You will work on Shopify apps, Checkout UI Extensions, Web Pixels, Customer Events, Theme App Extensions, webhooks, attribution, order data, GraphQL APIs and post-purchase experiences.

Togethr operates across the customer journey — from merchant storefront and checkout events to Thank You / Order Status experiences, attribution, orders and post-purchase rewards.

We need someone who understands how Shopify works underneath the storefront, can debug complex production integrations and can build systems that remain reliable across Shopify API and platform changes.

What You Will Own

1. Shopify App Development

Build, maintain and improve Togethr’s Shopify application using:

- Shopify CLI
- Shopify App Bridge
- Shopify GraphQL Admin API
- Shopify app authentication and authorization
- Shopify app configuration and deployment
- Appropriate Shopify access scopes
- Secure communication between Shopify and Togethr APIs

You should be comfortable owning the complete Shopify application lifecycle from development to production. 2. Checkout, Thank You & Order Status Extensions

Develop and maintain Shopify extensions across relevant post-purchase surfaces, including:

- Checkout UI Extensions
- Thank You Page
- Order Status Page
- Customer Account extensions where required
- Dynamic post-purchase banners and experiences
- Personalized rewards and offer experiences

Extensions must remain lightweight, reliable and non-blocking. 3. Shopify Web Pixels & Customer Events

Own Togethr’s Shopify event collection layer.

Work with events such as:

- Page viewed
- Product viewed
- Add to cart
- Checkout started
- Checkout completed
- Purchase and related commerce events

Understand Shopify’s Customer Events architecture, Web Pixel sandbox, event payloads, browser storage and data limitations. 4. Attribution & Journey Tracking

Work on reliable attribution between Togethr and Shopify.

You should understand

- URL/query attribution
- First-party identifiers
- Browser/local storage
- Cart and checkout attributes
- Order attributes
- Shopify customer/order identifiers
- Coupon attribution
- Checkout tokens
- Cross-page journey persistence
- First-party vs third-party checkout behaviour

The objective is to preserve the customer journey reliably without creating duplicate or conflicting sources of truth. 5. Shopify Webhooks & Order Lifecycle

Build and maintain reliable webhook handling for relevant Shopify events such as:

- Orders created
- Orders updated
- Orders cancelled
- Refunds / fulfillment events where required
- App uninstall and compliance events

You must understand:
- Webhook verification
- Idempotency
- Retries
- Duplicate events
- Out-of-order delivery
- Failure recovery
- Reconciliation with Shopify APIs

6. Shopify GraphQL APIs Strong practical knowledge of the Shopify GraphQL Admin API is required.

You should be comfortable working with:

- Orders
- Customers
- Discounts
- Fulfillments
- Metafields
- Shop data
- Webhook subscriptions
- Pagination
- API scopes
- Rate/cost limits
- API version upgrades

7. Theme App Extensions Build clean Shopify-native storefront integrations using:

- Theme App Extensions
- App Blocks
- App Embed Blocks
- Liquid when required
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Shopify theme editor compatibility

Avoid fragile direct theme modifications wherever Shopify provides a proper extension mechanism. 8. Data Reliability & Debugging

Debug customer journeys across

Storefront Pixel Cart Checkout Thank You Page Webhook Togethr APIs

You should be able to investigate issues involving:

- Missing events
- Duplicate events
- Attribution loss
- Webhook failures
- Incorrect order data
- Extension failures
- Authentication problems
- API-version changes
- Browser/storage behaviour
- Third-party checkout flows

We value engineers who can find the actual root cause, not patch symptoms. Current Togethr Shopify Responsibilities The engineer will initially work on and strengthen:

- Shopify app installation and authentication
- Thank You Page banner/experience
- Order Status Page experience

- Purchase/order forwarding
- Coupon and discount attribution
- Store/customer/order identification
- Shopify Togethr API communication
- Production debugging across merchant stores
- Existing app cleanup and simplification
- Shopify API/version upgrades

Future Scope As Togethr grows, this role may also work on:

- Customer Account UI Extensions
- Additional checkout surfaces

- Liquid customization only
- Installing Shopify apps
- CSS changes
- Basic ecommerce website development

Theme experience is useful, but Shopify application and platform engineering is mandatory.

Ideal Candidate

You should be able to answer questions such as:

- How would you reliably connect a Shopify purchase to an earlier customer journey?
- What happens if the same webhook is delivered multiple times?
- What happens if a webhook never arrives?
- What information should come from a Web Pixel versus an order webhook?
- How would you persist attribution from landing through checkout?
- How would you debug a Checkout UI Extension working on one store but failing on another?
- How would you upgrade an app when Shopify changes an API or extension version?
- How would you prevent client-side tracking from slowing down the merchant storefront?
- How do you handle missing/null customer data safely?
- How would you design the integration without maintaining multiple conflicting sources of truth?

If these are problems you enjoy solving, this role will suit you.

Engineering Principles

At Togethr we prefer

Straightforward > Clever

Deterministic > Defensive Complexity

One Source of Truth > Duplicate State

Shopify-Native Extensions > Fragile Hacks

Event Capture > Business Logic at the Edge

Root-Cause Fixes > Patches

Quick Customer Experience > Blocking Tracking The Shopify app should remain a clean integration layer. Core business logic belongs in Togethr’s backend rather than being duplicated throughout Shopify extensions.

Key Responsibilities

- Own Togethr’s Shopify codebase and extensions.
- Develop new Shopify capabilities as requirements evolve.
- Maintain compatibility with current Shopify APIs.
- Monitor upcoming Shopify platform changes.
- Upgrade extensions and API versions proactively.
- Investigate production problems across merchant stores.
- Write clean, readable and maintainable code.
- Add appropriate unit/integration tests.
- Review Shopify architecture before adding new complexity.
- Coordinate with Togethr backend engineers when contracts change.
- Document critical Shopify behaviour and integration contracts.
- Take responsibility for features from development through production validation.

Success in This Role Within the first few months, the engineer should be able to:

1. Understand the complete Togethr Shopify journey.
2. Independently debug production merchant issues.
3. Own Web Pixel, Checkout Extension and webhook code.
4. Improve reliability without adding unnecessary complexity.
5. Handle Shopify API/version upgrades confidently.
6. Strengthen attribution and order-data recovery.
7. Build new Shopify capabilities without breaking existing merchants.

Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Strong real-world Shopify engineering experience matters more than degree or certification.

Who Should Apply

Apply if you have actually built Shopify applications and extensions in production and can discuss the architecture, trade-offs, failures and debugging involved.

Candidates whose experience is primarily Shopify themes, Liquid or storefront development without Shopify App/API experience are unlikely to be suitable.
