Position Overview The Tool Room Head will be responsible for leading, managing, and optimizing all toolroom operations. This role ensures the timely design, development, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of all tooling, dies, moulds, jigs, and fixtures. The ideal candidate will blend strong technical expertise in precision engineering with robust leadership skills to drive efficiency, minimize production downtime, and maintain strict quality standards.

Core Responsibilities

1. Operations & Production Management

- Oversee the daily operations of the toolroom, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Plan and allocate resources (manpower, machines, and materials) to meet production schedules and tool manufacturing timelines.
- Minimize manufacturing downtime by ensuring rapid-response troubleshooting and repair of production tooling.

2. Tool Design & Development

- Lead the design and development of new tools, moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures based on engineering drawings and product specifications.
- Collaborate with the R&D; and Product Design teams to ensure tools are optimized for manufacturability.
- Review and approve 2D/3D tool designs, ensuring compliance with high-precision tolerances.

3. Preventive Maintenance & Asset Care

- Establish and execute a robust Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedule for all active production tools to extend their lifespan and prevent failures.
- Oversee the maintenance, calibration,



and upgrading of toolroom machinery (e.g., VMC milling, grinders).
- Maintain an accurate inventory of tooling spare parts, raw materials, and specialized inserts.

4. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

- Ensure all manufactured and repaired tooling meets exact quality and dimensional specifications.
- Root-cause analyze recurring tooling failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing) to reduce tool manufacturing costs and cycle times.

5. Team Leadership & Safety

- Lead, mentor, and train a team of toolmakers, VMC programmers, machinists, and designers.
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and secure machine operation.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals and identify skill gaps within the team to arrange targeted training.

Preferred candidate profile :

1. Education : Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering, or a specialized Diploma in Tool & Die Making (NTTF or equivalent preferred).
2. Experience : 1218 years of hands-on toolroom experience, with at least 57 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
3. Software Skills : Proficient in CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Cimantron, flow 3d simulation, e10, NX- CAD/CAM) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
4. Technical Expertise : Deep knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, precision machining (HASS), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;).
