About the Company
MEW Consultants is a leading environmental compliance and sustainability advisory firm specializing in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Waste Management, Circular Economy, and Environmental Strategy Development across India. We work with leading producers, recyclers, and regulatory bodies to advance responsible resource management and sustainable business practices.
Role Overview
MEW Consultants is hiring a Senior Accountant to take ownership of financial control across the business — not just execute transactions within it.
This role exists to close two specific gaps: first, the gap between work completed and revenue invoiced, which today depends on manual follow-up rather than a reliable trigger from execution to accounts; and second, the gap between routine bookkeeping and final sign-off, where too many closures currently wait on our external CA to confirm work that should be reviewed and owned internally. You will run month-end close, multi-entity reconciliation, and GST/TDS compliance end-to-end, and you will be the internal checkpoint between the team executing transactions and the auditor reviewing them — not a pass-through between the two.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Process Ownership
- Own month-end and quarter-end close across all MEW entities and cost centres in Tally Prime, on a fixed calendar — not contingent on external confirmation.
- Design and enforce the handoff that converts completed client engagements into invoices and Sales Orders without manual chasing; fixing this conversion gap is a core deliverable of this role.
- Take ownership of standard reconciliations, closures, and adjustments; escalate to the external CA only for genuine judgment calls, not for confirmation of routine, completed work.
- Every backlog closure, provisional entry, or valuation adjustment must carry a specific, documented, and verifiable reason — no placeholder narrations.
Multi-Entity Books & Reconciliation
- Maintain and reconcile books across MEW Consultants and affiliated entities/cost centres, with accurate bill references and narration in every voucher.
- Reconcile EPR credit stock across waste streams (Battery/Lead, Plastic, Used Oil, Tyre, E-waste, Lithium) — opening and closing valuations must be backed by matching purchase/sale transactions; flag any valuation movement that isn't.
- Perform weekly bank reconciliation and party ledger reconciliation against debtors and creditors.
- Maintain and audit purchase order and sales order records, including timely pre-closure of pending POs with documented reasons.
GST & TDS Compliance
- File GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9/9C across applicable GST registrations, fully reconciled against books.
- Apply reverse charge (RCM) and GST TDS correctly on scrap and metal procurement (registered vs. unregistered suppliers) and on import of services.
- Ensure HSN codes and e-invoicing meet current GST portal requirements.
- Own coordination for the annual GST audit and represent the books directly to auditors, not just supply data on request.
Statutory & Regulatory Currency
- Apply the Income-tax Act 2025 correctly in all statutory computations and flag any internal templates or processes still referencing superseded law.
Oversight & Reporting
- Review and sign off on work from Accounts Executive-level team members — this role is the internal checkpoint that closes the current gap between execution and audit.
- Prepare monthly cash flow statements, provisional/projected balance sheets, and financial summaries for leadership review.
Eligibility & Required Skills
- B.Com/M.Com or equivalent degree in Accounting/Finance; CA-Inter or CMA-Inter preferred, not mandatory.
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in GST/TDS compliance, Tally-based bookkeeping, and multi-entity reconciliation — single-ledger or shared-services-only experience will not meet this bar.
- Demonstrated experience independently owning month-end close, without ERP support and without waiting on external sign-off for routine items.
- Working knowledge of reverse charge (RCM) and GST TDS provisions, including on scrap/metal trade (Notification 06/2024-CT Rate), is a strong advantage.
- Comfortable operating across multiple GST registrations and entities simultaneously, with high transaction volume and minimal supervision.
- Prior experience reviewing or mentoring junior accounts staff.
