Position Overview The Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment on industrial construction sites. The role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting safety inspections, providing safety training, and enforcing safety regulations to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures to reduce the risk of accidents.
- Identify the safety policies required for the project and ensure their effective implementation.
- Inspect and monitor the site to ensure it remains a hazard-free environment.
- Coordinate and conduct toolbox talks/meetings.
- Review and approve contractors' safety plans.
- Verify that injury logs and incident reports are completed and submitted accurately.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are safe, adequate, and fit for use.
- Promote safe work practices across the job site.
- Enforce compliance with safety guidelines and regulations.
- Motivate contractors' safety teams to conduct safety training sessions and organize emergency drills and exercises.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Submit reports to the relevant authorities as required by applicable regulations.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
- Establish and update safety standards, procedures, and policies as required.
- Plan and conduct emergency response drills.
- Monitor the safety of all workers and prevent them from entering hazardous situations.
- Act as the liaison between the client's safety team and contractors.
- Ensure that all safety norms and practices are followed by contractors on site, maintain the required records, and prepare all necessary safety reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, ADIS
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or CSP) is an added advantage.
- Previous experience in construction safety or a related field.
- Robust knowledge of construction safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify potential safety hazards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to implement effective safety solutions.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with safety and quality standards relevant to industrial construction projects.
