1. Incoming Material Inspection
- Inspect incoming raw materials such as metal sheets, coils, tinplate, aluminium, inks, coatings, chemicals, and other packaging materials.
- Verify material specifications, dimensions, thickness, surface condition, colour, and quantity against approved specifications.
- Review and maintain inspection reports and supplier certificates.
- Identify and segregate non-conforming incoming materials.
1. In-Process Quality Inspection
- Perform inspection at various stages of production such as:
- Sheet feeding and printing
- Coating / varnishing
- Slitting
- Cutting and shearing
- Stamping / forming
- Body making
- Seaming
- Welding
- Assembly
- Finishing
- Check critical parameters according to approved specifications and control plans.
- Monitor first-piece approval and periodic inspection during production.
- Ensure proper line clearance and identification of approved/rejected materials.
1. Dimensional & Visual Inspection
- Check product dimensions using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and measuring tapes.
- Inspect for dents, scratches, cracks, burrs, rust, coating defects, printing defects, colour variation, contamination, and deformation.
- Verify printing registration, artwork, text, barcode, colour, and other customer-specific requirements.
- Inspect container/body dimensions, seam quality, closures, lids, and other critical features.
1. Testing & Quality Checks
- Conduct applicable tests such as:
- Coating thickness
- Adhesion test
- Hardness / surface checks
- Seam inspection
- Leak testing
- Torque / closure checks, where applicable
- Print and colour verification
- Weight and thickness checks
- Record test results accurately and report deviations immediately.
1. Finished Product Inspection
- Inspect finished products according to approved inspection standards and sampling plans.
- Verify product quantity, dimensions, appearance, labelling, packing, and identification.
- Release conforming products for dispatch after completion of required quality checks.
- Ensure rejected or doubtful products are properly identified and segregated.
1. Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
- Identify, document, and report quality defects and non-conformities.
- Raise NCRs for rejected materials/products as required.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor rework and rejection activities to ensure compliance with specifications.
1. Documentation & Records
- Maintain inspection reports, check sheets, test reports, rejection records, and quality logs.
- Ensure traceability of inspected materials and finished products.
- Maintain calibration status of measuring and testing equipment.
- Support preparation of quality-related reports and production quality data.
1. Safety & GMP/Quality Compliance
- Follow company quality procedures, work instructions, safety rules, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping and 5S in the inspection area.
- Follow applicable customer, statutory, and food-packaging quality requirements where relevant.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions and reliable quality deviations.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of metal packaging manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of sheet metal inspection and dimensional measurement.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and product specifications.
- Knowledge of inspection tools such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Gauges, and measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of statistical sampling and SPC.
- Good understanding of defect identification and segregation.
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify visual and dimensional defects.
- Basic computer skills, particularly MS Excel and quality documentation.
Qualification ITI or Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Quality, .
Experience
Typically 1–5 years of experience in quality inspection, preferably in metal packaging, sheet metal, printing, can manufacturing, or similar manufacturing industries.
