Backend Engineer — Python & Go
KJBN Labs Private Limited | CIN: U62020TZ2023PTC028730
Location: Bengaluru, India
Function: Engineering — Backend & Platform
Why this role exists
Agriculture is the largest industry in the world that still runs on paper, WhatsApp, and memory. We are changing that.
KJBN Labs builds Raithu — a domain-first, operations-native, intelligence-led orchestration platform, completely configurable to how each agribusiness actually runs. It unites intelligence and orchestration in a single system, so that every decision, every transaction, and every field activity runs on the same source of truth — turning fragmented agricultural operations into one controlled, measurable, continuously-improving enterprise.
Our vision: Engineering agriculture, for every acre on the planet. Our mission: To build the operating system for agriculture.
That is not a slogan on a wall. It is a systems problem — millions of plots, hundreds of crop-variety combinations, multi-party ledgers, geospatial boundaries, offline field devices, and settlement logic that has to be correct to the last rupee and the last kilogram. We need engineers who find that genuinely engaging.
What you'll actually build
You will own services at the core of the platform, not the edges of it.
- Domain services in Python — contracts, orders, procurement, harvest, and the unified farmer ledger. This is where the business logic lives, and it is dense, stateful, and unforgiving of shortcuts.
- High-throughput services in Go — sync engines for offline-first field applications, geospatial processing, event ingestion,
and anything where latency and concurrency decide whether the system works or merely runs.
- Data models that survive contact with reality — schemas for crop hierarchies, plot geometries, phenological event streams, and double-entry accounting across multiple counterparties.
- APIs that other teams can build on — clean, versioned, documented, and boring in the best possible way.
- The pipes between them — event streams, queues, idempotent workers, retries, reconciliation jobs. The unglamorous machinery that keeps a distributed system honest.
What we're looking for Non-negotiable
- Experience building and running backend systems in production.
- Deep fluency in Python — you know your way around Django or FastAPI, understand the async story, and can reason about what the ORM is actually doing to your database.
- Real working proficiency in Go — you've shipped Go to production, not just read the tour. You're comfortable with goroutines, channels, context propagation, and the discipline Go imposes on error handling.
- Strong relational database instincts — PostgreSQL schema design, indexing, query planning, and knowing when a join is the problem and when it's the answer.
- API design judgement — REST done properly; GraphQL a bonus.
- Comfort with containers and CI/CD — Docker, Git branching strategy, pipelines that you trust enough to deploy on a Friday.
- The ability to write things down. Design notes, ADRs, README files. If it isn't written, it doesn't exist.
