About Antropi Robotics
We are building the Factory of the Future.
Antropi Robotics is a Y Combinator-backed robotics company based in Bengaluru, building autonomous manufacturing systems by combining industrial robotics, computer vision, CNC automation, and AI-powered factory software.
Our systems are engineered for real production environments, around real CNC machines, robots, and factory constraints, with the goal of making manufacturing more autonomous, productive, and software-defined.
You will join a small, talent-dense engineering team with strong academic and industry backgrounds across Ivy League universities, robotics, deep-tech, manufacturing, automation, and high-growth startups. We work with high ownership and a strong bias toward building, taking systems from first principles and prototypes to machines running in production.
About the Role
We are looking for a high-ownership Mechanical Engineer to help design, manufacture, assemble, test, and improve mechanical systems for Antropi’s autonomous factory.
The role sits at the intersection of mechanical design, CNC manufacturing, robotics, and factory automation.
This is not a pure CAD or desk-design role. The ideal candidate should enjoy the full engineering cycle:
- Understanding the problem
- Designing the system
- Planning how parts will be manufactured
- Working with CNC machining and manufacturing workflows
- Getting parts manufactured
- Assembling and testing prototypes
- Finding failures
- Improving the design through multiple iterations
You will work closely with the founders and engineering team on real hardware systems that will be deployed in manufacturing environments.
This role is best suited for someone who likes building things with their hands, understands how parts are actually manufactured, enjoys solving practical mechanical problems, and takes responsibility for whether a design works reliably in the real world.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design & Prototyping: Design mechanical systems, fixtures, assemblies, mechanisms, mounts, and supporting structures for robotic automation inside CNC factories.
- CNC Machining & Manufacturing: Work with CNC milling and turning, part setups, tooling, workholding, tolerances, manufacturability,
and basic CAM workflows involved in producing parts.
- Design for Manufacturing: Design parts with practical consideration for machining, fabrication, assembly, tolerances, tooling access, and cost.
- Manufacturing & Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with machinists, fabricators, vendors, and suppliers with strong, clear communication to get parts manufactured, modified, sourced, and assembled on time.
- On-Site Execution: Take ownership of factory-floor and vendor-site execution, communicate effectively with technicians and partners, resolve practical issues, and drive work to completion.
- Assembly, Testing & Iteration: Assemble prototypes, test systems in our factory, identify mechanical issues and failure modes, and improve designs through repeated iterations.
- Factory Automation Systems: Work on mechanical subsystems involving robotic arms, CNC machines, gantries, AMRs, fixtures, sensors, and machine interfaces.
- Documentation & Collaboration: Create CAD models, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, assembly notes, and test documentation while working closely with robotics, software, electronics, and manufacturing teams.
Required Skills & Traits
- Strong Mechanical Fundamentals: Valuable understanding of mechanisms, materials, machine design, tolerances, fasteners, structures, and practical engineering constraints.
- CAD & Design Ability: Comfortable creating parts, assemblies, fixtures, and manufacturing-ready drawings using CAD tools.
- CNC & Manufacturing Fundamentals: Basic understanding of CNC milling and turning, tooling, workholding, machining operations, tolerances, surface finishes, and how parts are manufactured.
- Hands-On Builder Mindset: Comfortable assembling, testing, debugging, measuring, and improving real mechanical systems rather than working only in CAD.
- Manufacturing Awareness:
Familiarity with processes such as machining, sheet metal, fabrication, welding, 3D printing, and laser cutting.
- Problem-Solving & Iteration: Able to break down ambiguous problems, build practical solutions, learn from failures, and improve designs quickly.
- High Ownership: Takes responsibility for outcomes, follows through independently, and cares about whether the final system works reliably.
- Structured Execution: Able to maintain design files, BOMs, drawings, task trackers, vendor notes, and clear engineering documentation.
- Strong Communication & Coordination: Able to communicate clearly with vendors, machinists, technicians, and internal teams, translate engineering requirements into actionable instructions, and follow through until the work is completed.
Preferred Background
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience with student engineering teams, robotics teams, or hardware startups is a strong advantage.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD tools is preferred.
- Exposure to CAM software or CNC machining workflows is a plus.
- Hands-on exposure to machining, fabrication, prototyping, 3D printing, CNC, welding, sheet metal, fixturing, or assembly will be highly valued.
Role Details
- Location: Bengaluru, on-site and factory-based
- Role Type: Full-time
- Function: Mechanical Engineering / CNC Manufacturing / Robotics Hardware / Factory Automation
- Reporting To: Founders and Engineering Team
