Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Truck Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Operations – Logistics team in Africa.
The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining trucks and heavy vehicles to ensure vehicle safety, reliability, and operational availability. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on mechanical skills, experience with heavy vehicles, and the ability to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
Key Responsibilities1. Vehicle Diagnosis & Repairs
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical problems in trucks and heavy vehicles.
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults and malfunctions.
- Repair or replace worn or damaged components, including:
- Engines
- Transmissions
- Braking systems
- Suspension systems
- Other mechanical and electrical components
- Troubleshoot complex vehicle problems and recommend appropriate repairs.
1. Preventive Maintenance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including:
- Oil and filter changes
- Tire inspections/rotation
- Brake inspections
- General vehicle servicing
- Ensure vehicles are maintained according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Identify potential issues before they lead to vehicle breakdowns.
1. Service Records & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs, servicing and maintenance activities.
- Document vehicle condition, faults identified, parts replaced and work completed.
- Prepare maintenance reports and recommend further action where required.
1. Driver / Operator Coordination
- Communicate with truck drivers and operators to understand vehicle problems.
- Provide updates regarding repair progress and expected completion.
- Provide professional recommendations on vehicle care and preventive maintenance.
1. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all applicable workshop safety procedures and regulations.
- Use hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
- Ensure tools and workshop equipment are properly maintained.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
1. Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with other mechanics, service managers and parts personnel to ensure efficient workshop operations.
- Support timely completion of repairs and maintenance activities.
- Provide guidance, mentorship and training to junior mechanics when required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational training/certification in Truck, Diesel or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Truck Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of truck systems, components and repair techniques.
- Experience using vehicle diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Strong hands-on mechanical and technical skills.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
