Role Purpose The Head of Maintenance will be responsible for leading the complete maintenance function for the company’s electric bus and electric truck fleet , ensuring high fleet availability, reliability, safety, cost efficiency and optimal vehicle performance.

The role will oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance, technical diagnostics, workshop operations, OEM coordination, spare-parts management, maintenance planning, warranty management and development of a robust EV maintenance strategy across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

1. EV Fleet Maintenance

- Lead maintenance operations for electric buses and electric trucks across all operating locations.
- Ensure maximum fleet availability and minimum vehicle downtime.
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Monitor vehicle health, recurring failures and maintenance trends.
- Establish maintenance standards and SOPs for different EV platforms.

2. EV Technical & Diagnostic Management

- Provide technical leadership for EV powertrain and vehicle systems , including:
- Battery Pack & BMS
- Electric Motor & Motor Controller
- Inverter / Power Electronics
- DC-DC Converter
- On-board Charger
- Charging Systems
- Vehicle Control Unit (VCU)
- Thermal Management Systems
- High-Voltage Systems
- Telematics and vehicle diagnostics
- Braking, suspension, steering and other mechanical systems
- Lead root-cause analysis of major and recurring technical failures.
- Analyze vehicle diagnostic data and recommend corrective actions.
- Work closely with engineering/OEM teams for product improvement and reliability enhancement.

3. Bus & Truck Maintenance Strategy

- Develop separate maintenance strategies based on the operating requirements of electric buses and electric trucks .




- Establish vehicle-wise maintenance schedules, service intervals and component replacement plans.
- Optimize maintenance practices based on vehicle utilization, route conditions, payload and duty cycles.
- Drive continuous improvement in vehicle reliability and component life.

4. Workshop & Team Management

- Lead workshop operations across multiple depots/locations.
- Set up and standardize workshop infrastructure, tools, equipment and diagnostic systems.
- Build and manage a strong technical maintenance team comprising managers, engineers, technicians and supervisors.
- Develop technical competency and training programs for maintenance teams.
- Ensure effective manpower deployment based on fleet size and operating hours.

5. Maintenance Cost & Budget Management

- Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget.
- Control maintenance cost per vehicle/km.
- Monitor spare-parts consumption, component replacement and repair costs.
- Drive cost optimization without compromising vehicle safety or reliability.
- Identify opportunities for component refurbishment, repair and lifecycle optimization.

6. Spare Parts & Inventory

- Define critical and fast-moving spare-parts requirements.
- Establish minimum/maximum inventory levels for critical EV and mechanical components.
- Coordinate with SCM for timely procurement and availability of spares.
- Reduce vehicle downtime caused by spare-parts shortages.
- Monitor warranty and component failure trends to optimize inventory.

7. OEM & Vendor Management

- Act as the key technical interface with EV OEMs, battery suppliers, charging partners and maintenance vendors.
- Monitor OEM service performance and technical support.
- Manage warranty claims and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
- Participate in technical discussions related to current vehicle procurement and specifications.
- Evaluate vendor performance and maintenance contracts.

8. Safety & Compliance

- Ensure strict compliance with EV high-voltage safety protocols .
- Establish SOPs for HV isolation, battery handling, diagnostics and emergency response.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable statutory, safety and environmental requirements.
- Conduct periodic maintenance audits and safety inspections.
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance and safety records.

9. Data, MIS & Performance Management





- Establish maintenance KPIs and dashboards covering:
- Fleet Availability
- Vehicle Downtime
- MTBF / MTTR
- Preventive Maintenance Compliance
- Breakdown Frequency
- Maintenance Cost per KM
- Spare Consumption
- Warranty Recovery
- Component Failure Rate
- Use fleet/telematics and maintenance data to identify trends and improve reliability.
- Present periodic maintenance performance reports to senior management.

10. New Fleet Introduction

- Lead technical readiness for onboarding new EV bus and truck models.
- Develop maintenance plans, spare-parts lists, diagnostic requirements and workshop readiness before vehicle deployment.
- Coordinate with OEMs for technical training and knowledge transfer.
- Conduct technical evaluation during vehicle trials and pilot operations.

Candidate Profile

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Automobile / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
- 20+ years of experience in commercial vehicle maintenance, with substantial experience in electric vehicles .
- Strong hands-on experience with both electric buses and electric trucks is preferred.
- Experience in managing large commercial EV fleets, preferably across multiple locations.
- Strong understanding of EV architecture, battery systems, BMS, motors, controllers, power electronics and charging infrastructure.
- Experience in workshop setup, maintenance planning, diagnostics and fleet reliability management.
- Strong experience in OEM, vendor and warranty management.
- Proven leadership experience managing large technical teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and cost-management skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively across project/depot locations.

Preferred Industry Experience Candidates from electric mobility, fleet operations, commercial EV, bus/truck OEMs, logistics, transportation, automobile or heavy commercial vehicle industries will be preferred.

Ideal candidate: A senior maintenance leader who has managed large-scale commercial EV fleets covering both electric buses and electric trucks , with strong technical, operational, people-management and cost-control capabilities.
