Legal Manager – Litigation Strategy & Case Management
Contract Role | 6 Months (extendable to 12) | Bengaluru | Full-Time On-Site
Role Snapshot
Position: Legal Manager – Litigation Strategy & Case Management (In-House Counsel)
Engagement: Contract / Consultant – 6 months, extendable to 12 months on performance
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka (matters span Karnataka and Tamil Nadu)
Reporting to: Founder / Managing Director
Compensation: ₹20,000 – ₹50,000 per month (commensurate with experience)
Experience: 2–5 years in civil / property litigation (chamber or litigation practice)
About the Role
We are a real estate, land development and renewable energy group with an active portfolio of property, title, land-use and regulatory matters across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. We already have on-record advocates who appear in court. What we do not have is a sharp in-house mind who owns the file, does the deep research, builds the strategy and hands our advocates a ready-to-use brief.
This is that role. You will NOT appear in court and will NOT sign vakalatnamas. You will be the intelligence engine behind every matter — the person who reads everything, finds the angle, and drives the case to closure.
What You Will Own
- Master case tracker for all active matters: stage, next date, exposure, owner, next action.
- A one-page brief before every hearing — facts, issue, our position, opposing party's best defence, what our advocate must argue.
- Deep legal research: statutes, rules, circulars and Karnataka / Madras High Court and Supreme Court precedent relevant to each matter.
- Case chronologies, document and evidence indexes, and pleadings review for gaps before filing.
- Independent validation of external counsel's strategy — challenge it, stress-test it, propose alternatives with time and cost estimates.
- Monthly strategy memo per matter with a transparent recommendation: fight, settle, withdraw or negotiate.
- Title due diligence support, revenue record verification (RTC, mutation, khata, patta, chitta, adangal), encumbrance and boundary checks.
- Coordination with revenue, municipal, town planning and registration authorities for records, certified copies, NOCs and clearances.
- Tracking limitation periods, compliance deadlines and procedural steps so nothing is ever missed.
Must-Have Qualifications
- LL.B. / B.A. LL.B. from a recognised law school; enrolled with a State Bar Council.
- 2–5 years of hands-on civil litigation experience, preferably in a senior advocate's chamber or a litigation practice.
- Demonstrated work in property and land matters: title disputes, specific performance, injunctions, partition, declaration suits, writ petitions against municipal / revenue / town planning authorities.
- Working knowledge of CPC, Transfer of Property Act, Registration Act, Specific Relief Act, Limitation Act, Karnataka Land Revenue Act, and land-use / CLU and zoning frameworks.
- Exceptional legal research skills and comfort with Manupatra / SCC Online / Indian Kanoon and government portals (Kaveri,
Bhoomi, TN e-services).
- Ability to write in plain business English — short, decision-ready notes, not legal essays.
- Fluency in English and Kannada; Tamil is a strong advantage.
What Will Set You Apart
- You find angles others miss and are not satisfied with 'the case is adjourned'.
- You are organised to the point of being obsessive about dates, documents and follow-ups.
- You can push back on a senior advocate respectfully and still keep the relationship intact.
- You want ownership and a track record, not just a designation.
- Prior experience with real estate developers, land aggregators or infrastructure companies.
Selection Process
- Screening call (20 minutes) – experience fit and compensation alignment.
- Paid practical assignment (48 hours) – a real, anonymised case file. You submit a 2-page case note: timeline, cause of action, opposing party's best defence, three routes to closure with time and cost, and ten questions for our advocate.
- Strategy discussion with the Founder on your submission.
- Live call with our existing external counsel.
- Reference check with your current or previous senior, followed by offer.
Terms
- Contract / consultant engagement for 6 months, reviewed at day 30, 90 and 180, extendable to a full time role as well.
- Confidentiality, non-conflict declaration and assignment of work product to the company are mandatory.
How to Apply
- Apply with your CV and a short note (maximum 200 words) on one property or land dispute you worked on — what was stuck, what you did, and how it ended. Candidates who address this note will be prioritised.
