A Day in the Life of GLOBAL API INTEGRATION ENGINEER (Apigee X + Hybrid Developer)

The Global API Platform Engineer serves as the key expert for operating and optimizing L’Oréal’s Apigee X platform and API lifecycle. This hands-on role manages deployments, security, CI/CD pipelines, and observability to ensure APIs are secure, performant, scalable, and aligned with the Group’s API-First strategy across hybrid environments (Apigee). The Global API Integration Engineer is the enterprise reference for API platform and lifecycle

Missions And Responsibilities The mission of the Global API Integration Engineer is to design and maintain a secure, scalable API management framework using Apigee X to enable seamless integration across global systems and ensure high performance and reliability.

In this role, You will..

Be Responsible For The Following

- Apigee Platform Management: Operate, maintain, and continuously improve the Apigee X platform, ensuring stability, high performance, and scalability across all environments.
- CI/CD &
- Automation:



Design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for Apigee deployments (e.g., environments, proxies, shared flows, policies). Implement infrastructure-as-code practices using tools such as Terraform and Cloud Build.
- Security &
- Compliance: Implement and maintain security policies (OAuth2, OIDC, API Keys, Rate Limiting, IP Filtering). Ensure all APIs exposed through Apigee adhere to enterprise security and compliance standards.
- Performance &
- Observability: Define and manage monitoring, alerting, and logging standards using GCP native tools and/or external solutions (e.g.,ELK). Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Platform Reliability &
- Incident Management: Ensure high availability of the platform. Establish operational procedures for incident detection, escalation, and resolution.
- Automation &
- Continuous Improvement: Automate repetitive operational workflows (API deployments, policy updates, configuration management). Drive platform optimization through scripting and tool integration.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cloud engineers, security teams, and product teams to support integration of backend services through APIs and maintain consistent delivery standards.
- Performance & observability: Define monitoring and alerting standards for API traffic to ensure high availability and low latency.

Key Accountabilities This role ensures the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the enterprise API ecosystem. Specifically, the Global API Integration Engineer is accountable for:

- Platform Stability: Guarantee Apigee X operates smoothly, securely, and meets enterprise-grade service levels.
- Operational Excellence: Leverage automation and observability to maintain reliability and improve efficiency.
- Security Enforcement: Ensure the API gateway acts as a secure, compliant, and resilient layer for all exposed services.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor traffic patterns and system metrics to ensure low latency and optimal throughput

CANDIDATE PROFILE Seniority &

- Experience

- 9–12 years of total experience in software engineering and enterprise integration.
- Minimum 5 years of deep,



hands-on experience architecting and implementing solutions on the Google Apigee platform
- Experience operating in global, federated organizations with complex integration requirements.

Technical Expertise &

- Hard Skills

Expertise in Apigee internals: Proxies, Shared Flows, Custom Policies (Java/JavaScript/Python), Spike Arrest, and Quota management.

- API Security Mastery: Advanced implementation of OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, Mutual TLS, and Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Cloud Armor
- Cloud &
- Infrastructure: Strong knowledge of Google Cloud and Kubernetes (GKE) as the backend environment for API services.
- DevOps &
- Automation: CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), scripting (Java, JavaScript, Python).
- Traffic Management: Proficiency in load balancing, rate limiting, and caching strategies at the gateway level.
- Observability: Experience with Apigee Analytics and integration with logging stacks (ELK, Splunk, or Azure Monitor).
