About the role

We are looking for motivated Mechanical Engineers to join our integrated steel plant. The selected candidates will support the installation, operation, inspection, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance and reliability improvement of mechanical equipment across the plant.

The role may involve working in raw-material handling, coke oven, sinter plant, blast furnace, steel melting shop, casting, rolling mill, utility, power plant and material-handling areas. Mechanical maintenance engineers are generally responsible for equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and reducing plant downtime.advancedtech+1

Key responsibilitiesFor freshers

- Assist senior engineers in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of plant equipment.
- Inspect pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, fans, blowers, cranes, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment.
- Support daily equipment rounds using the look-listen-feel method.
- Assist in identifying abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, leakage and lubrication problems.
- Help supervise maintenance work carried out by technicians and contractors.
- Support equipment installation, alignment, coupling, bearing replacement and commissioning activities.
- Assist during planned shutdowns and emergency breakdown maintenance.
- Check tools, tackles, spares and consumables required for maintenance work.
- Read equipment drawings, assembly drawings, P&IDs; and maintenance manuals.
- Maintain equipment history, inspection reports, checklists and work-order records.
- Coordinate with production, electrical, instrumentation, stores and safety departments.
- Follow permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, confined-space and other plant-safety procedures.
- Participate in root-cause analysis of equipment failures and suggest corrective actions.
- Support 5S, housekeeping, energy-saving and continuous-improvement activities.

For candidates with 1–2 years’ experience
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Supervise maintenance of conveyors, crushers, screens, feeders, pumps, compressors, fans, gearboxes, hydraulic systems and cranes.
- Diagnose breakdowns and take timely action to restore equipment availability.
- Carry out inspection and maintenance of rotating equipment, bearings,



couplings, shafts, seals and lubrication systems.
- Check equipment alignment, vibration, temperature, oil condition and operating performance.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedules.
- Execute shutdown and turnaround maintenance activities within approved time and safety requirements.
- Conduct breakdown analysis, 5-Why analysis and root-cause analysis.
- Recommend modifications to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurring failures.
- Coordinate contractors, technicians, workshops, equipment suppliers and service agencies.
- Prepare maintenance reports, job cards, spare-parts requirements and equipment-history records.
- Support estimation, budgeting and procurement of mechanical spares.
- Monitor critical equipment and identify potential failures before production is affected.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with approved SOPs, risk assessments and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records in SAP PM, CMMS or another maintenance-management system, where applicable.
- Assist with minor mechanical projects, equipment modifications and commissioning work.

- Piping, valves, tanks and pressure-related equipment.

Safety responsibilities
- Follow all plant safety rules, PPE requirements and work permits.
- Ensure proper isolation and lockout/tagout before starting maintenance.
- Conduct toolbox talks before critical maintenance activities.
- Follow safe practices for working at height, lifting, hot work and confined spaces.
- Inspect lifting tools,



tackles and maintenance equipment before use.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, equipment hazards and incidents.
- Ensure contractors follow plant safety and environmental requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping at the work location.
- Support emergency response during equipment breakdowns, fire or other plant incidents.

Required qualifications and skills
- Diploma or B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and manufacturing equipment.
- Understanding of bearings, couplings, gearboxes, pumps, valves and lubrication.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Basic knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Knowledge of vibration, alignment and condition monitoring is advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and maintenance documentation.
- SAP PM, CMMS, AutoCAD or MS Project knowledge will be an advantage.
- Valuable communication and contractor-coordination skills.
- Willingness to work in shifts, plant areas and during shutdowns.
- Ability to work safely in a hot, dusty, noisy and heavy-industrial environment.

Preferred experienceFresher
- Industrial training or internship in a steel, cement, power, automotive or manufacturing plant.
- Academic project related to maintenance, rotating equipment, fabrication or production.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SAP or basic vibration analysis will be beneficial.

1–2 years’ experience
- Experience in mechanical maintenance in a steel, cement, power, mining or heavy-engineering plant.
- Experience with conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, fans, compressors or hydraulic equipment.
- Exposure to shutdown maintenance, contractor supervision and breakdown analysis.
- Experience preparing maintenance reports, spare requirements and job plans.
