About the role :
As a Forward Deployed Infrastructure Engineer at Zamp, and an early member of this function, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of customer deployments while helping define how Zamp's platform is deployed and operated across enterprise environments.
Many of our largest customers operate in regulated industries and require Zamp to run inside their own infrastructure rather than our cloud. You will work directly with these customers to architect, deploy, upgrade, and manage the Zamp platform in their environments, ensuring every deployment meets their security, compliance, and operational requirements.
This is a hands-on individual-contributor role. You will typically serve as the directly responsible technical owner for a small number of strategic enterprise customers, leading each deployment from architecture and discovery through implementation, production readiness, and ongoing operations. Alongside that, you will establish the standards, tooling, and processes that make deployments repeatable, and partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Sales, and Customer Success.
Previous AI or machine learning experience is helpful but not required. Strong production infrastructure and Kubernetes deployment experience matters considerably more.
What you'll do :
- Own deployment architecture conversations and execution, designing and implementing deployment strategies across customer environments, including Kubernetes topology, networking, permissioning, storage, identity,
and infrastructure provisioning.
- Manage the full infrastructure lifecycle for some of Zamp's most critical customers: initial deployment, ongoing upgrades, scaling, and incident support.
- Personally configure and troubleshoot Helm releases, workloads, services, ingress, secrets, observability, and autoscaling within customer-controlled clusters.
- Work with customers' platform engineering, security, and DevOps teams to navigate their infrastructure constraints, compliance requirements, and change management processes.
- Translate customer security, reliability, and operational requirements into practical deployment architectures, and know when a requirement is a configuration change versus a genuine product gap.
- Diagnose complex issues across Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, application services, databases, authentication, networking, and service dependencies, often with limited access to the environment.
- Develop and maintain Helm configurations, deployment automation, validation tooling, runbooks, and upgrade procedures that make operations repeatable and reliable.
- Own the deployment supply chain: image promotion, vulnerability scanning, artifact signing, and the mirroring workflows that air-gapped and restricted customers depend on.
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure Zamp's platform is deployable and operable across diverse customer requirements, converting customer-specific solutions into reusable platform improvements.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Success to scope infrastructure requirements during pre-sales and onboarding, translating customer needs into concrete deployment plans.
What you'll bring :
- 4+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or solutions architecture, with significant time spent on customer-facing deployment work.
- Demonstrated experience personally deploying and operating production applications on Kubernetes,
including workloads, services, ingress, DNS, network policies, persistent storage, secrets, identity, autoscaling, and observability.
- Production experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), including networking fundamentals such as VPCs, IAM, DNS, and load balancing.
- Hands-on experience with Helm and at least one infrastructure or deployment automation system such as Terraform, Argo CD, Flux, Kustomize, or equivalent.
- Track record of managing deployments in customer-owned environments, including navigating security reviews, compliance requirements, and change management processes.
- Solid debugging skills across containers, distributed services, networking, logs, metrics, authentication, storage, and service dependencies.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity with enterprise stakeholders, from platform engineers to CISOs, and turn infrastructure conversations into actionable deployment plans.
- Strong operational instincts: you think about upgrades, rollbacks, monitoring, and failure modes from the start, not as an afterthought.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical decisions and tradeoffs to both engineers and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and collaborating across engineering, product, and go-to-market teams.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience deploying applications onto a Kubernetes platform managed entirely by another team is not sufficient on its own. Candidates should have direct experience diagnosing and resolving Kubernetes and infrastructure-level issues.
