JOB SUMMARY:
As an Embedded Firmware Engineer, you will own the full development lifecycle for high-reliability, 32-bit SoC, SoM, and microcontroller platforms powering our flight systems and payloads. You will work at the hardware-software boundary—architecting boot flows, designing custom device drivers, and developing register-level code built to withstand extreme operational constraints.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and mission engineering teams. Your core success metrics center on system uptime, zero-defect firmware builds, hardware-in-the-loop validation accuracy, and adherence to safety-critical aerospace coding standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Firmware Architecture & Design: Architect, develop, and test low-level embedded firmware for 32-bit SoCs, SoMs, and MCUs (ARM Cortex-M/A) deployed on orbital hardware.
- Low-Level Hardware Integration: Write register-level drivers, custom bootloaders, and Board Support Packages (BSPs) while optimizing memory mapping and interrupt handling.
- Communication & Protocol Implementation: Develop and validate robust data pipelines across UART, SPI, I2C, USB, and Ethernet (UDP).
- Board Bring-Up & Debugging: Lead board bring-up by interpreting hardware schematics and utilizing JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and FPGA debugging tools.
- Safety & Reliability Standards: Enforce rigorous code quality via unit testing, static analysis, structured peer reviews, and adherence to safety-critical compliance frameworks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with RF, power, and payload engineers to support system integration, environmental testing, and root-cause analysis.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR?
- Education & Experience: B.E./B.Tech in ECE, EEE, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience with 3–5 years of qualified embedded firmware development.
- Core Language Proficiency:
Advanced proficiency in Embedded C/C++ targeting resource-constrained systems.
- Processor Expertise: Hands-on development on 32-bit architectures (ARM Cortex-M/A, STM32, NXP, TI, ESP32, Renesas).
- RTOS & Boot Flow: Demonstrated experience with FreeRTOS (or equivalent RTOS), memory management, interrupt handling, and custom bootloader development.
- Hardware Debugging: Proven ability to read schematics and debug at the bench using JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Toolchains & VCS: Experience with Git workflows, CMake/Make, and GCC-based or vendor toolchains (Keil, IAR).
PREFERRED & NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Safety-Critical Standards: Exposure to MISRA C, DO-178, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or PTP 1588.
- Aerospace Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with radiation-tolerant architectures, space payload telemetry, or mission-critical embedded systems.
- Test Automation: Experience building automated unit tests, HIL test setups, and CI/CD pipelines for firmware.
