About the role

We are hiring Electrical Engineers to support the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems in an integrated steel plant. The selected candidates will work on electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, commissioning and improvement of plant power-distribution and control systems.

The role may cover raw-material handling, coke oven, sinter plant, blast furnace, steel melting shop, continuous casting, rolling mill, utilities, captive power and material-handling systems. Typical steel-plant electrical work includes maintenance of motors, drives, substations, PLCs, control panels, power-distribution systems and process equipment.rajuristeels+1

Key responsibilitiesFor freshers

- Assist senior engineers in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
- Inspect motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, PCCs, control panels and distribution systems.
- Support maintenance of LT and HT motors, pumps, fans, conveyors, cranes and other plant equipment.
- Assist in checking cable terminations, earthing, fuses, relays, contactors and overload-protection devices.
- Help troubleshoot electrical faults under the supervision of experienced engineers.
- Support inspection of VFDs, soft starters, starters, PLC panels and instrumentation interfaces.
- Assist with testing of insulation resistance, continuity, earth resistance and motor condition.
- Participate in planned shutdowns, emergency maintenance and equipment commissioning.
- Read single-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment manuals.
- Maintain inspection checklists, work permits, maintenance logs and breakdown reports.
- Coordinate with mechanical, instrumentation, production, utility and safety teams.
- Support energy-saving, 5S, housekeeping and continuous-improvement activities.
- Follow electrical isolation, lockout/tagout and permit-to-work procedures.

For candidates with 1–2 years’ experience
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of plant electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot HT/LT motors, MCCs, PCCs, transformers, switchgear, VFDs, soft starters and control circuits.
- Maintain electrical systems for conveyors, crushers, pumps, fans, cranes, rolling mills and continuous-casting equipment.
- Monitor electrical parameters such as current, voltage, load, power factor and motor temperature.
- Coordinate inspection and maintenance of substations, transformers, protection systems and power-distribution equipment.
- Support PLC, SCADA, HMI and automation fault diagnosis in coordination with the instrumentation team.




- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly preventive-maintenance schedules.
- Execute shutdown and turnaround maintenance within the approved safety and time requirements.
- Conduct failure analysis and root-cause analysis for repeated electrical breakdowns.
- Recommend equipment modifications and reliability-improvement measures.
- Supervise electricians, technicians, contractors and service agencies.
- Prepare maintenance reports, job cards, test records, equipment history and spare requirements.
- Assist in electrical estimation, procurement, inspection and inventory control of critical spares.
- Support recent equipment installation, testing, energization and commissioning.
- Coordinate with operations before electrical switching, isolation and restoration of supply.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs such as equipment availability, downtime, PM compliance and repeat failures.

Electrical maintenance roles commonly include planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, technician coordination, maintenance documentation and strict isolation procedures. - Transformers, circuit breakers, isolators and protection relays.
- PCCs, MCCs, APFC panels and distribution boards.
- LT and HT motors, generators and emergency power systems.

- PLC, SCADA, HMI and industrial communication systems.
- Conveyors, crushers, screens, feeders and stacker-reclaimers.
- Pumps, fans, compressors, blowers and hydraulic power units.
- Cranes, hoists and material-handling equipment.
- Rolling-mill drives and control systems.
- Continuous-casting electrical and control systems.
- Plant lighting, emergency systems, UPS and battery chargers.
- Earthing, lightning protection and cable-tray systems.

Safety responsibilities
- Follow all electrical safety rules, PPE requirements and permit systems.
- Ensure proper isolation, discharge, earthing and lockout/tagout before starting work.
- Verify absence of voltage before handling electrical equipment.
- Follow safe practices for HT switching, electrical testing and work at height.
- Conduct toolbox talks and job-safety analysis before critical work.
- Inspect tools, test instruments, cables and lifting equipment before use.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, electrical hazards and incidents.
- Ensure contractors comply with plant safety and environmental procedures.




- Maintain proper housekeeping around panels, substations and cable routes.
- Support emergency response during electrical faults, fires and power interruptions.

Required qualifications and skills
- Diploma or B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
- Basic knowledge of electrical machines, power systems and industrial maintenance.
- Understanding of motors, transformers, switchgear, relays and control panels.
- Ability to read single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams and control schematics.
- Basic knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, SCADA and industrial automation is desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical testing instruments and safe testing procedures.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and maintenance documentation.
- SAP PM or CMMS knowledge will be an advantage.
- Good troubleshooting, communication and team-coordination skills.
- Willingness to work in shifts, plant areas and during planned shutdowns.
- Ability to work safely in a hot, dusty, noisy and heavy-industrial environment.

Preferred experienceFresher
- Industrial training or internship in a steel, cement, power, mining or manufacturing plant.
- Academic project related to electrical maintenance, power systems, PLCs or automation.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, ETAP, PLC programming or VFDs is beneficial.

1–2 years’ experience
- Experience in electrical maintenance in a steel, cement, power, mining or heavy-engineering plant.
- Exposure to HT/LT panels, motors, transformers, drives, substations or PLC systems.
- Experience with shutdown maintenance, contractor supervision and breakdown analysis.
- Experience using SAP PM, CMMS, maintenance checklists and electrical test reports.
