Position: Ecommerce Manager, Website Operations, Merchandising & Performance
Role Overview The Ecommerce Manager owns the website end-to-end from an operational, merchandising, performance, and optimization standpoint. This role is responsible for ensuring the website is always accurate, functional, optimized for conversion, and aligned with business priorities.
This is not a creative role. All photography, video, design, and copy are requested from and supplied by the Creative Content Team. This role deploys, manages, tests, and optimizes those assets once provided.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Website Operations & Ownership: Own daily operation of the ecommerce website across homepage, collections, product pages, navigation, and checkout. Act as the final owner responsible for site accuracy, functionality, and performance. Maintain consistency across desktop and mobile, with mobile as the priority.
2. Homepage & Page Management (Execution Only): Update homepage sections using approved assets provided by the Creative Content Team. Swap, reorder, or remove homepage sections based on performance, inventory, and business priorities. Ensure homepage reflects current launches, in-stock products, and active collections. Modules are sections of the site that can be updated or rearranged, such as banners, featured product rows, and collection links, without redesigning the site.
3. Product & Collection Merchandising: Control how products appear across collection pages. Ensure out-of-stock products are pushed to the end of collections, best-performing products are surfaced, and new arrivals are visible. Manage collection logic, filters, and product sequencing.
4. Inventory Visibility & Accuracy: Monitor inventory levels daily.
Prevent sold-out or low-stock items from being featured prominently. Replace sold-out homepage placements immediately and flag inventory risks internally.
5. Product Page Optimization (Non-Creative): Ensure all product pages are complete and accurate including pricing, variants, size availability, and shipping information. Deploy approved creative assets once received. Optimize layout and functionality based on performance data and request creative updates when needed.
6. Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO): Monitor the full customer funnel and identify friction points. Plan and execute A/B tests related to layout, UI elements, and merchandising logic. Implement winning tests and document results.
7. Customer Behavior & Analytics: Analyze click behavior, scroll depth, on-site search usage, and exit pages. Identify high-traffic low-conversion areas and translate insights into site updates or test plans.
8. Competitor & Market Monitoring: Monitor competitor ecommerce sites regularly. Track site structure, merchandising strategies, and functional features. Share operational insights and recommendations based on industry standards.
9. Platform, Performance & Tech Health: Own Shopify performance and reliability. Audit installed apps and integrations. Monitor page speed, mobile usability, and checkout stability. Identify and resolve bugs quickly.
Daily Responsibilities: Confirm homepage, collections, and product pages are functioning correctly. Ensure featured products are in stock. Push sold-out products to the end of collections. Test add-to-cart and checkout flows. Review daily revenue, conversion rate, and AOV. Weekly Responsibilities: Refresh homepage product ordering using existing assets. Update collection ordering based on performance. Audit top and bottom performing product pages. Review heatmaps and session recordings. Request creative assets where gaps are identified. Review competitor site updates.
Monthly Responsibilities: Conduct a full site audit across homepage, collections, product pages, navigation, and checkout. Analyze product performance and re-merchandise as needed. Optimize in office search behavior. Audit Shopify apps and site performance. Deliver a monthly ecommerce performance summary.
Quarterly Responsibilities: Create and present an ecommerce optimization roadmap. Plan and execute larger CRO and UX initiatives. Review and improve overall site structure and navigation.
Role Boundaries: This role does not create photography, video, copy, or design assets and does not define brand identity or creative direction. All creative assets are sourced from the Creative Content Team.
Success in This Role: The website is always accurate, fast, and functional. Sold-out products are never promoted. Conversion rate and revenue improve steadily. Decisions are data-driven and operationally sound.
