Position: Duty Medical Officer (DMO)
Department: Emergency / Casualty & Inpatient Services
Reports To: Clinical incharge
Location: Evani hospital, hosa road, bangalore.
Job Summary The Duty Medical Officer is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical care to emergency, OPD and inpatient patients, assessing patient conditions, initiating appropriate treatment, coordinating with consultants, and ensuring timely escalation of critical cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and manage patients presenting to the Emergency/Casualty department.
- Conduct initial clinical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.
- Attend emergency and critical cases promptly and initiate life-saving measures.
- Perform and assist in emergency procedures as per competency.
- Monitor admitted patients and provide regular clinical reviews.
- Take and document complete patient history, examination findings and treatment plans.
- Order appropriate investigations and interpret basic laboratory and radiology reports.
- Coordinate with specialists and consultants for further management.
- Identify deteriorating patients and arrange timely transfer to ICU or higher-level care when required.
- Perform CPR and participate in Code Blue/emergency response.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, case sheets and discharge summaries.
- Ensure proper medication orders and follow-up of investigation reports.
- Communicate patient condition and treatment plans appropriately to patients and attendants.
- Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and other departments.
- Ensure proper handover of patients during shift changes.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and NABH requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Participate in clinical meetings, audits, training and quality-improvement activities.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid State Medical Council .
- Emergency/critical-care experience preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience preferred.
- Fresh MBBS candidates with suitable emergency-care exposure may also be considered.
Skills & Competencies
- Good emergency and clinical assessment skills.
- Ability to manage medical emergencies independently until consultant support is available.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in shifts.
- Basic knowledge of ACLS/BLS and emergency procedures.
- Positive documentation and coordination skills.
Duty Requirements
- Willingness to work rotational shifts, night duties, weekends and public holidays as per the hospital duty roster.
- Must remain available for emergency calls and timely escalation of critical cases.
