About the Role The Database Structure Architect serves as the critical translation layer between our Data Lineage specialists and our physical infrastructure. Your primary job will be to document the database schema and create comprehensive Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs). You will be responsible for taking upstream inputs—specifically the Logical Design Document (LDD)—and extending them into a standalone, buildable database structure.

Traditional "UI-first" database design is strictly banned; instead, you will engineer databases backward, starting exclusively from the defined End Document (ED) and reverse-engineering step-by-step to the Source Document (SD).

Primary Responsibilities

- Document Database Schemas: Translate every table, queue, or store referenced in the LDD into a formal, buildable physical schema.
- Create ERD Diagrams: Generate accurate Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) that exactly reflect the tables, primary keys, foreign keys, and relationships defined in the schema constraints.
- Polyglot Persistence Mapping: Determine the exact right storage engine for specific data types, deciding where the architecture requires SQL, NoSQL, Graph, or Time-Series databases.




- Lineage-to-Storage Traceability: Maintain a strict mapping from upstream transformations to downstream storage, ensuring every table column traces back to its origin.
- Database Lineage Locks: Hardcode strict relational constraints, specifically requiring a predecessor_id column to ensure the database engine physically rejects any orphan records.
- Normalization & Optimization: Balance data integrity against read performance by structuring schemas (1NF–3NF) for transactional safety or strategically denormalizing for analytical efficiency. Architect indexing strategies to ensure queries execute within optimal time complexities.

Technical Skills / Tools

- Relational Design: Deep expertise in relational database design (e.g., PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Cloud SQL).
- Documentation & ERD: Proven ability to document strict data dictionaries and generate precise ERD diagrams.
- Data Boundaries: Strong understanding of schema constraints, primary/foreign key relationships, and explicit data type boundaries.
- Analytical Deconstruction: Ability to objectively deconstruct compound data structures into atomic, granular components.
