Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Costing Engineer role based in Chennai.

The Costing

Engineer will analyze product, component, and process costs across automotive and engineering projects, using benchmarking data, teardown findings, and 3D scan outputs to build accurate cost models and estimates. The role involves preparing detailed costing reports, supporting value engineering initiatives, and collaborating with design, benchmarking,



and project teams to identify cost optimization opportunities. The individual will review supplier quotations, validate cost assumptions, and provide cost insights that support product planning and decision making.

The Costing

Engineer will also contribute to continuous improvement of costing methodologies, tools, and databases in alignment with CAP-CP’s quality and data security standards.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in cost analysis, cost modeling, and estimation for automotive or engineering components and systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., Zero-Based Costing, Should Costing, Manufacturing Process Costing, BOM Analysis).
- Proficiency in Excel and relevant costing or ERP tools; familiarity with data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, process sheets, and technical specifications.
- Experience working with benchmarking, teardown, and reverse engineering data is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- Robust analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Comfort working in a lab and workshop environment, with adherence to safety and quality procedures.
- Prior experience in cost engineering, value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), or supplier cost management is preferred.
