Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytically strong Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing product costs, identifying variances between customer costing and actual manufacturing costs, and providing actionable insights to enhance cost control and profitability. This role requires close collaboration with Production, Procurement, Sales, and Finance teams to ensure accurate cost reporting and support informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and maintain detailed product cost sheets, including material, labor, and overhead components
· Perform variance analysis between customer-quoted costs and actual manufacturing costs; investigate root causes and report findings to management
· Analyze material consumption variances, labor efficiency variances, and overhead absorption variances on a periodic basis
· Monitor standard costing vs. actual costing and ensure timely updates to standard cost masters in the ERP system
· Support product pricing decisions by providing cost data, margin analysis, and profitability assessments
· Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting processes by preparing cost-related inputs and cost centre budgets
· Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOM) and routings in coordination with the production and engineering teams to ensure costing accuracy
· Track inventory valuation, monitor slow-moving or non-moving stock, and reconcile physical inventory with system records
· Collaborate with Procurement to analyze purchase price variances (PPV) and assess their impact on product cost
· Generate periodic MIS reports, cost dashboards, and management presentations highlighting key cost trends and improvement opportunities
· Identify gaps in cost structures and recommend process improvements to enhance cost visibility and reporting accuracy
· Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and audit requirements related to costing and inventory
Required Qualifications
· CMA (Final) Passed from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) -mandatory
· 4-5 years of hands-on experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing setup
· Strong working knowledge of standard costing, job costing, and process costing methodologies
· Familiarity with BOM structures, routings, and production order accounting
· Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent); experience with SAP CO/MM modules is an advantage
· Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, MIS reporting, and variance tracking
Preferred Skills
· Experience with SAP S/4HANA Controlling (CO) module product costing, and profitability analysis (CO-PA) -cost center accounting,
· Exposure to Power BI or similar Bl tools for cost dashboards and reporting
· Understanding of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles as applied to cost reduction
· Prior experience in auto-components, engineering, or process manufacturing industries
