We are seeking an experienced Azure DevOps Engineer to join our product and cloud deployment engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, building, automating and supporting secure cloud deployment pipelines for enterprise SaaS products and customer cloud deployment projects. The role requires strong hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployment automation and operational support for enterprise-grade cloud environments, including production and disaster recovery deployments aligned to agreed availability, RPO and RTO objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for automated build, test, release and deployment activities across development, test, staging, production and disaster recovery environments.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using ARM templates, Bicep and Terraform to provision and manage Azure resources in a repeatable, secure and auditable manner.
- Support the deployment and ongoing improvement of enterprise SaaS products within customer-owned Azure subscriptions and Microsoft 365 tenants.
- Support complex enterprise application deployments on Microsoft Azure, including AKS, networking, identity, security, monitoring and supporting platform services.
- Work with Azure Cloud Architects, product engineers, application teams and customer stakeholders to translate architecture, environment, resilience and recovery requirements into automated deployment workflows.
- Configure and manage source control, branching strategies, pipeline approvals, release gates, variable groups, service connections and deployment permissions within Azure DevOps.
- Implement secure CI/CD practices, including secrets management, setting approvals, deployment validation, rollback planning and auditability of deployment activities.
- Build and maintain deployment automation for Azure services such as App Service, Container Apps, AKS, Azure SQL, Blob Storage, Service Bus, Key Vault, Application Configuration, Container Registry, Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
- Support containerised workloads using Docker, Azure Container Registry, Kubernetes, AKS and Helm where required.
- Create and maintain deployment runbooks, pipeline documentation, operational procedures, rollback plans, failover procedures and technical implementation notes.
- Support production-to-DR environment parity by ensuring infrastructure, configuration, pipeline logic, deployment artefacts and environment parameters are managed consistently through source control and infrastructure as code.
- Support backup, restore, failover and recovery validation activities for cloud-hosted platforms, including evidence capture from successful recovery tests and DR exercises.
- Monitor pipeline reliability,
deployment failures, environmental drift, backup status, replication health and DR readiness, and implement improvements to increase deployment quality and repeatability.
- Troubleshoot deployment, infrastructure, configuration, access, recovery and failover issues across Azure DevOps, Azure services and customer environments.
- Support incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions related to deployment automation, infrastructure provisioning, release processes and disaster recovery readiness.
- Ensure DevOps practices align with security, governance, compliance, change management, service availability and business continuity requirements for enterprise and public-sector cloud environments.
Required Skills
- 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in Azure DevOps, cloud deployment automation or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong practical experience with Azure DevOps, including Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Artifacts, environments, approvals and service connections.
- Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using YAML-based Azure DevOps Pipelines.
- Strong infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform, Bicep and ARM templates.
- Good understanding of Azure resource provisioning, configuration management, deployment sequencing and environment promotion.
- Strong understanding of Azure services including compute, containers, data, storage, networking, security, identity, monitoring and operations.
- Experience working with Git-based source control, branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews and release tagging.
- Experience with deployment automation across multiple environments such as DEV, SIT, UAT, Pre-Production, Production and DR.
- Experience supporting enterprise production and DR environments where releases, recovery procedures and operational readiness must align with agreed SLAs, RPOs and RTOs.
- Understanding of high availability, backup, restore, failover, failback, replication, recovery validation and environment parity concepts in cloud-hosted enterprise platforms.
- Ability to support DR testing activities, including deployment into recovery environments, smoke testing, recovery evidence capture and post-recovery validation.
- Ability to troubleshoot pipeline failures, deployment errors, access issues, configuration drift and cloud infrastructure problems.
- Good scripting skills using PowerShell, Azure CLI,
Bash or similar automation tools.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with architects, developers, support engineers, security teams and customer stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and manage multiple deployment priorities.
Desirable Skills/Knowledge
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Developer Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Experience deploying or supporting enterprise applications, digital experience platforms or SaaS products on Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with AKS-based enterprise deployments, including node pools, ingress, Helm charts, namespaces, private endpoints and monitoring.
- Experience with Terraform remote state, state locking, environment-specific variable files and module-based infrastructure design.
- Experience with self-hosted Azure DevOps agents or private deployment runners operating inside customer networks.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, CircleCI, Argo CD, Flux or other popular DevOps and deployment platforms used for cloud deployments.
- Exposure to AWS or GCP cloud platforms, including core compute, networking, identity, storage, container and monitoring services.
- Experience using infrastructure as code and CI/CD practices across multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Knowledge of AWS deployment tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy or related services.
- Knowledge of GCP deployment tools such as Cloud Build, Deployment Manager, Cloud Deploy, Artifact Registry or related services.
- Experience with container image scanning, dependency scanning, secret scanning and infrastructure-as-code security scanning.
- Understanding of deployment governance, approval workflows, change control, release management and audit trails in regulated environments.
- Experience with disaster recovery deployment patterns, including warm standby, active-passive, active-active, cross-region replication, traffic failover, DNS considerations and recovery-environment activation.
- Familiarity with RPO and RTO measurement, DR drill execution, recovery evidence collection, backup/restore verification and operational acceptance of recovery outcomes.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Graph, SharePoint Online or SaaS products deployed into customer cloud environments.
- Understanding of cloud cost optimisation, right-sizing and operational monitoring for Azure-hosted or multi-cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with ISO 27001-aligned security practices, customer-controlled environments, enterprise governance requirements and business continuity expectations.
