SECTION III: PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Perform independent, risk-based audits of the retail lending lifecycle including sourcing, underwriting, disbursement, and collateral management to ensure credit policy adherence, asset quality, and regulatory compliance.

SECTION IV: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & KPIS OF THE ROLE

Responsibilities KPIs

Strategy and

Planning

- Evaluate the quality of credit appraisals for retail products and SME (Home Loans, Auto Loans, Personal Loans, LAP).
- Verify borrower eligibility against the approved credit policy, income norms, and risk appetite frameworks.
- Assess the verification process of customer documents, including financial statements, tax filings, and credit bureau (CIBIL) reports.
- Review underwriting exceptions and deviations to ensure proper approvals and justifications exist.
- Check pre-disbursement conditions (CPAs) to confirm all sanctions terms are met before funds are released.
- Audit loan documentation accuracy, including loan agreements, mortgage deeds, and guarantee papers.
- Verify the perfection of charges on collateral, vehicle hypothecation, and legal/valuation report validity.
- Analyze post-disbursement tracking, including end-use verification and first EMI defaults (FED).
- Identify early warning signals (EWS) of stress, non-performing assets (NPAs), and potential retail credit frauds.




- Review the efficiency and compliance of the collections and recovery processes for overdue accounts.
- Utilize audit tools and data analytics to identify sampling sets and high-risk loan pockets.
- Draft objective audit findings with clear root-cause analysis for credit and business stakeholders.
- Track the remediation of audit observations and ensure systemic gaps in credit processing are closed.
- In depth knowledge of the banking audit operations. Ability to structure and customize solutions to meet needs.
- Flair to work in complexity, with explicit focus on closure of transactions.
- Strong understanding of retail loan products, credit policy frameworks, and central bank (RBI) credit norms.
- Sharp analytical mindset, eye for detail, and objective decision-making capabilities.
- Proficiency in Loan Origination Systems (LOS), Loan Management Systems (LMS), and MS Excel.

- Lead the development and maintenance of internal audit methodologies, ensuring alignment with professional standards (e.g., IIA Standards) and regulatory expectations.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, statutory requirements, and relevant banking regulations.

- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance audit quality and mentor team members in quality assurance principles.

Performance Monitoring &

Reporting





- Prepare comprehensive reports and provide insights to senior management and the audit committee on the quality of audit work and key performance indicators.
- Ensure effective control mechanisms in outsourcing arrangements, vendor processes, and third-party integrations.

- Building and managing strong stakeholder relationships across all levels of management, governance bodies, and business units, ensuring open communication and trust.

Customer

Management

- Measuring stakeholder satisfaction with the audit process, as recommended by the Internal Audit Standards, to ensure continuous improvement.

Risk and Internal

Control

- Ensure timely and correct submission of data / information to Reserve Bank of India
- Ensure timely closure of audits and audit reports

People

Management

- Ensure timely submission of data/ information to Reserve Bank of India.

SECTION V: OPERATING NETWORK Internal Business Unit, For collating responses and information for submission to RBI.

External RBI, for providing information sought by RBI, seeking and providing clarification on the data requirements.

SECTION VI: ROLE PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

Education Essential: Chartered Accountant, MBA (Finance), or certifications in Credit Risk Management.

Experience Essential: 2 to 7 years in retail credit underwriting, credit operations, or retail credit audit within a private bank or NBFC).
