Responsibilities

Design & Planning

- Design electrical systems for commercial buildings (offices, retail, industrial, mixed-use)
- Create electrical schematics, load calculations, and power distribution layouts
- Specify electrical equipment, fixtures, and components
- Ensure compliance with local electrical codes and building standards

Project Management

- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and construction teams
- Review contractor submittals and shop drawings
- Conduct site inspections during construction phases
- Manage project timelines and electrical system deliverables

Building Systems Integration

- Design power distribution systems (transformers, switchgear, panels)
- Plan lighting systems and controls for energy efficiency
- Integrate fire alarm, security, and communication systems
- Design backup power systems (generators, UPS)

Technology Infrastructure

- Plan structured cabling and telecommunications systems
- Design smart building automation integration




- Specify electrical requirements for HVAC and other building systems
- Plan EV charging infrastructure for parking areas

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure adherence to NEC (National Electrical Code) and local codes
- Conduct electrical safety assessments
- Prepare electrical permit applications and documentation
- Perform commissioning and testing of electrical systems

Energy Management

- Design energy-efficient electrical systems
- Conduct energy audits and recommend improvements
- Plan renewable energy integration (solar, battery storage)
- Support LEED and other sustainability certifications
