Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-
Monitor daily operation of laboratory and reporting results to all concerns
Plan daily weekly monthly and annual maintenance required for the Instruments in the lab to ensure the availabilities through the year.
Responsibilities
- Chemical Analysis of Materials:
- Collection of samples received from yard, rakes, and trucks in process and customer end samples.
- Thorough knowledge on Sample collection, preparation as per International standard methods.
- Well conversant with NABL (ISO/IEC 17025), prepare and develop and update ISO documents to comply with company policies.
- Plan and arrange to carry out calibration of typical Instruments to ensure accuracy of results reported.
- Conduct routine chemical analysis of raw materials (e.g., iron ore, limestone, coke, and fluxes) and sinter products to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
- Analyze blast furnace materials, including coke, sinter, slag, and hot metal, to monitor chemical properties and optimize production processes.
- Perform both wet chemical analysis and instrumental techniques such as XRF, ICP, OES ,C&S-; combustion analysis ,GC, Orsat, Microscopy and other methods as required for accurate material testing.
- Monitor the quality of sinter and blast furnace materials, ensuring they meet the required chemical, physical and metallurgical specifications for optimal performance.
- Carry out periodic inspections and tests to ensure that the sinter plant and blast furnace operations adhere to quality standards.
- Investigate and address any discrepancies in material quality, reporting findings and suggesting corrective actions to the production team.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all chemical analyses, test results, and quality control activities in both hard and soft form.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols while handling chemicals, materials, and laboratory equipment.
- Comply with environmental regulations and company policies regarding waste disposal, emissions, and handling of hazardous materials.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Diploma in Chemical Engineering/ Metallurgy.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years for AM, 5 years for Chemist /Executive and 3 years for Asst. Eng. in similar position in BF/SP Laboratory in a chemical analysis or metallurgical laboratory, preferably in integrated steel plant.
- Computer knowledge is essential.
- Skills:
- Solid understanding of chemical processes involved in sintering and blast furnace operations.
- Proficiency with laboratory techniques and equipment such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF), ICP, and other instrumental methods.
- Experience in quality control and assurance processes, specifically related to metallurgical materials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights to improve process efficiency.
