Overview

Item.com is seeking an AI Automation & Agent Builder to create dependable automations and task-oriented agents that connect AI models to business systems, data, APIs, and human operators.

Responsibilities

- Deliver agents and automations that complete real work with appropriate controls.
- Reduce operational effort while preserving accuracy, traceability, and human decision rights.
- Create reusable integration and orchestration patterns for future workflows.
- Build AI-enabled automations and bounded agents using APIs, tools, structured outputs, and orchestration logic.
- Connect agents to internal systems and external services with explicit permissions and safeguards.

Minimum Requirements

- Demonstrated automation/integration engineering experience, including API-driven systems.
- Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, low-code platforms, or a combination of these.




- Practical LLM/agent experience beyond chat interfaces: tool calling, structured output, retrieval, evaluation, or orchestration.
- Ability to identify when a task should remain deterministic, require human review, or be handled by an agent.
- Understanding of secure credentials, permissions, data handling, and operational failure modes.

Preferred Requirements

- Implement input validation, retries, idempotency, logging, error handling, and human-in-the-loop escalation.
- Use retrieval or knowledge sources where needed; measure output quality and failure patterns.
- Document designs, prompts, tool contracts, guardrails, and runbooks.
- Collaborate with engineers and operations teams to move solutions from pilot to dependable production use.
