Accountant – Job Description
Job Title: Accountant
Department: Finance & Administration
Reports To: Principal / Administrative Officer / School Management
Job Summary
We are seeking a responsible, detail-oriented, and experienced Accountant to manage the school’s financial records and day-to-day accounting operations. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounts, handling fee records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring timely and proper financial documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of all school financial transactions.
- Manage student fee collection, receipts, refunds, and outstanding fee records.
- Maintain cash book, ledger, journal, and other accounting records.
- Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Handle payments, invoices, bills, vouchers, and expense records.
- Reconcile bank statements and maintain proper banking records.
- Monitor school income and expenditure and assist with budget preparation.
- Process salary and payroll-related records as assigned.
- Maintain records of statutory payments, taxes, and other financial requirements.
- Coordinate with auditors and provide required financial documents.
- Ensure proper filing and safe maintenance of financial records.
- Prepare reports for the Principal and School Management.
- Monitor outstanding payments and follow up with relevant departments/parents where required.
- Use accounting software and MS Excel for financial data management.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and personal information.
- Support management in financial planning and cost control.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (B.Com.) / Accounting / Finance or equivalent.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial procedures.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software such as Tally.
- Previous experience as an Accountant, preferably in a school or educational institution, will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of applicable tax and statutory requirements is preferred.
