About the Role
We are hiring a Medical Coder to handle coding for US outpatient physiotherapy and physical medicine practices. You will review therapy evaluation and daily treatment notes, assign accurate CPT and ICD-10-CM codes, apply timed-unit rules correctly, and make sure every claim is coded to what the documentation supports.
This is a specialty coding role. If you have coded therapy claims and are confident with the 8-minute rule, we want to speak with you.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign CPT codes from physiotherapy evaluation and treatment notes, including evaluation tiers 97161, 97162, 97163 and re-evaluation 97164
- Code timed therapeutic procedures such as 97110, 97112, 97116, 97140, 97530, 97535 and 97150
- Code supervised and constant-attendance modalities including 97010, 97012, 97014 / G0283, 97032 and 97035
- Calculate timed treatment units correctly under the CMS 8-minute rule and reconcile total treatment time against units billed
- Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest level of specificity, including correct 7th character selection
- Apply therapy modifiers accurately – GP, KX, CQ, 59 / XE / XP / XS / XU, and 96 / 97
- Review NCCI edits and medically unlikely edits before claim submission
- Verify medical necessity and plan-of-care certification before releasing claims
- Raise provider queries where documentation is missing, unsigned or insufficient, and follow them through to closure
- Support denial resolution for coding-related denials and share root-cause findings with the team
- Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and code only what documentation supports
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences, physiotherapy, nursing, pharmacy or allied health
- CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) certification – held and current
- 2–4 years coding US outpatient physiotherapy, physical medicine and rehabilitation, chiropractic or occupational therapy claims
- Strong working knowledge of the 8-minute rule, the 97000-series CPT range, therapy modifiers and NCCI edits
- Familiarity with plan-of-care certification, recertification and progress-note requirements
- Experience with Medicare Part B and commercial payers
- Hands-on experience with an EMR or PM system such as WebPT, Prompt, Raintree, Clinicient, TheraOffice, eClinicalWorks or athenahealth
- Good written English for provider queries
- Willing to work night shift
Preferred
- BPT or MPT qualification
- Workers' compensation or auto / no-fault claims exposure
- Experience auditing or training junior coders
Pay: ₹22,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
