Roles & Responsibilities
A Planning Manager in a modular furniture manufacturing/project organization is responsible for planning and controlling the complete workflow from order confirmation through design, procurement, production, delivery, installation, and handover.
1. Project & Production Planning
- Prepare the overall project execution plan based on confirmed orders and delivery commitments.
- Develop project-wise and production-wise schedules.
- Plan activities for design, procurement, production, quality, dispatch, and installation.
- Establish priorities based on project deadlines and site requirements.
- Monitor planned vs. actual progress.
2. Capacity Planning
- Assess production capacity against the order pipeline.
- Plan machine, manpower, and production-line requirements.
- Identify capacity constraints and bottlenecks.
- Balance workloads across production sections.
- Coordinate overtime, additional shifts, or outsourcing when required.
3. Material Planning
- Coordinate with procurement based on the production schedule.
- Identify material requirements and expected consumption.
- Monitor availability of boards, laminates, hardware, accessories, finishes, and other materials.
- Highlight material shortages that could affect production.
- Coordinate material availability with planned production dates.
4. Design & Engineering Planning
- Coordinate with the Design Manager regarding drawing release schedules.
- Track site measurements, design development, approvals, and production drawing releases.
- Ensure approved drawings are available before production starts.
- Monitor pending design clarifications and revisions.
- Identify design-related delays affecting the project schedule.
5. Production Planning & Control
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly production plans.
- Release work orders according to priority and material availability.
- Coordinate with CNC, cutting, edge-banding, drilling, assembly, finishing, and packing departments.
- Monitor production progress against the plan.
- Identify bottlenecks and initiate corrective actions.
6. Site & Installation Planning
- Coordinate production completion with dispatch and installation requirements.
- Prepare installation schedules based on site readiness.
- Coordinate with project/site teams regarding access, storage, manpower, and installation sequence.
- Ensure furniture reaches site as per installation priorities.
- Track installation progress and pending works.
7. Coordination Between Departments
The Planning Manager acts as a key coordination point between:
Sales/Projects → Design → Estimation → Procurement → Production → Quality → Dispatch → Installation
The objective is to ensure that each department receives the required information and materials at the right time.
8. Schedule Monitoring
- Maintain master project schedules.
- Track critical milestones and deadlines.
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly progress reports.
- Identify delays and their root causes.
- Develop recovery plans for delayed activities.
- Escalate critical schedule risks to management.
9. Inventory & WIP Control
- Monitor work-in-progress at different production stages.
- Avoid excessive WIP and production congestion.
- Coordinate with stores regarding material availability.
- Monitor finished-goods readiness for dispatch.
- Support inventory optimization through accurate planning.
10. ERP/MIS & Reporting
- Maintain planning data in ERP/MRP or relevant planning systems.
- Generate production and project progress reports.
- Track order status, material status, drawing status, production status, and dispatch status.
- Maintain planning dashboards and KPI reports.
- Provide management with accurate forecasts and schedule information.
11. Risk & Bottleneck Management
- Identify risks affecting delivery schedules.
- Monitor long-lead materials and critical components.
- Identify bottlenecks in design, procurement, production, quality, and installation.
- Develop alternative plans where necessary.
- Coordinate corrective actions with responsible departments.
12. Team Management
- Lead the planning team and assign responsibilities.
- Establish planning procedures and reporting formats.
- Review planners' performance and accuracy.
- Train team members on planning systems and processes.
- Ensure timely and reliable planning information.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
