- Analyze critical elements such as C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Ni, Mo, Cu, Al, V, Ti, Nb, B, Ca, and other alloying/residual elements as applicable.
- Provide timely chemical analysis results to the SMS/Production team for heat adjustment and grade control.
- Ensure accurate determination of final chemistry before casting.

2. Spectrometer Operations

- Operate and supervise Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) for rapid analysis of steel samples.
- Carry out standardization, calibration, drift correction, and routine performance checks of the spectrometer.
- Troubleshoot instrument-related problems and coordinate with service engineers when required.
- Maintain reference materials, standards, consumables, and instrument records.

3. Heat Chemistry & Grade Control

- Monitor heat-wise chemistry against specified steel grade limits and internal specifications.
- Identify deviations in chemistry and immediately communicate with SMS/Production and QA/QC teams.
- Support operators/metallurgists in making appropriate alloy additions based on analytical results.
- Maintain complete heat-wise analytical records and traceability.

4. Laboratory Management

- Supervise day-to-day activities of SMS laboratory personnel, including Chemists, Analysts, and Lab Technicians.
- Plan manpower and ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations across shifts.
- Verify test results, calculations, reports, and laboratory records.
- Ensure proper sampling, sample preparation, testing, and reporting procedures.

5. Quality & Compliance

- Investigate abnormal or doubtful analytical results and conduct root-cause analysis.
- Maintain documentation related to calibration, standardization, reference samples, test methods, and equipment.
- Participate in internal/external audits and support corrective and preventive actions.

6. Process & Quality Improvement

- Analyze chemistry trends and identify recurring deviations in steelmaking.
- Work closely with SMS, Steelmaking, CCM, QA/QC, Maintenance, and Process Metallurgy teams to resolve quality issues.

- Support optimization of sampling, testing, turnaround time, and analytical accuracy.
- Contribute to reduction of chemistry-related rejections, reprocessing, and grade deviations.

7. Safety & Housekeeping

- Ensure safe handling of molten-metal samples, acids, chemicals, gases, and laboratory equipment.
- Ensure proper PPE usage and compliance with SMS/laboratory safety procedures.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping, 5S, chemical storage, and waste-disposal practices.

Required Technical Skills
