Virtual Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Virtual Pharmacy Technician to support the daily operations of an independent retail pharmacy. This position will work remotely and assist the pharmacy team with prescription processing, insurance issues, refill coordination, patient communication, delivery coordination, and other administrative pharmacy functions.

The Virtual Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of the pharmacist and must comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, HIPAA requirements, and company policies.

Primary Responsibilities
- Enter and process new prescriptions and refill requests in the pharmacy management system.
- Review prescription information for completeness and accuracy before pharmacist verification.
- Process insurance claims and troubleshoot common third-party rejections.
- Contact insurance companies when necessary regarding:
- Refill-too-soon rejections
- Prior authorization requirements
- Formulary issues
- Coordination of perks




- Coverage problems
- Assist with prior authorization follow-up and communicate required information to prescribers.
- Contact physician offices for refill authorizations, clarification requests, and prescription-related follow-up.
- Communicate with patients regarding:
- Prescription status
- Refill requests
- Medication availability
- Insurance issues
- Copays
- Pickup or delivery arrangements
- Coordinate prescription deliveries and communicate delivery instructions to pharmacy staff and drivers.
- Assist with medication synchronization and adherence programs.
- Contact patients regarding upcoming refills and overdue medications.
- Assist with maintenance medication refill reminders.
- Support bubble-pack or compliance-packaging patients by coordinating medication changes and refill schedules.
- Document patient, prescriber, and insurance communications accurately in the pharmacy system.
