Role & responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, learner-centred lessons in English Language and/or Literature in alignment with the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus.
- Foster solid conceptual understanding, critical analysis, vocabulary
development, and appreciation of literature among students.
- Integrate diverse literary genresincluding prose, poetry, and
dramawhile connecting texts to real-world contexts and cross-
curricular themes.
- Prepare students effectively for Cambridge examination
components, including Reading, Writing, and Literature papers, with
a focus on examination strategies and analytical skills.
- Develop comprehensive lesson plans, unit plans, and annual
curriculum outlines aligned with Cambridge International standards.
- Design and implement a variety of formative and summative
assessments, supported by clear evaluation rubrics.
- Maintain accurate academic records, lesson reflections, and student
progress documentation in accordance with school and Cambridge
requirements.
- Monitor individual student progress and provide targeted academic
support, constructive feedback, and intervention where required.
- Guide students in academic writing, argument development,
referencing conventions, grammar, and language accuracy.
- Support students in preparing for advanced English proficiency
requirements and related entrance assessments where applicable.
- Conduct periodic assessments aligned with Cambridge learning
objectives and maintain accurate grade records.
- Prepare detailed student progress reports and contribute actively to
parentteacher meetings and academic review discussions.
- Train students in past paper practice and the effective use of
Cambridge marking schemes and examiner expectations.
- Serve as a Class Teacher or Mentor, supporting the academic,
behavioural, and emotional wellbeing of assigned students.
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom
environment that encourages collaboration, creativity, and
confidence.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student
progress, achievements, and areas of concern.
- Collaborate with subject coordinators and school leadership on
curriculum development, planning meetings, and interdisciplinary
initiatives.
- Participate in internal moderation processes, faculty training
sessions, and ongoing professional development programmes.
- Stay updated with Cambridge curriculum developments, assessment
changes, and emerging teaching methodologies.
- Promote Cambridge learner attributes and 21st-century
competencies within classroom practices.
- Contribute to school literary, cultural, and co-curricular
programmes, including debates, Model United Nations, poetry
recitations, and creative writing initiatives.
- Uphold and model the schools values, policies, and professional
standards in all aspects of work.
