About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) with 5+ years of experience to lead and facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) delivery across two squads of 7 people each totalling 15 team members. You will serve as a servant leader and coach for the ART — facilitating PI Planning, managing cross-team dependencies, removing impediments, and driving continuous improvement across the delivery organisation.
This is a high-impact facilitation and coordination role — requiring deep SAFe expertise, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to operate effectively across multiple squads in a fast-paced, collaborative delivery environment.
Key Responsibilities
ART Facilitation & Delivery
- Facilitate and coordinate all ART-level ceremonies — PI Planning, ART Sync, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops — ensuring effective cross-team alignment and programme increment delivery.
- Manage and coordinate delivery across two squads of 7 — ensuring teams are aligned to PI objectives, dependencies are managed, and risks are identified and mitigated proactively.
- Track and manage ART-level programme board — maintaining visibility of features, dependencies, risks, and milestones across both squads throughout each programme increment.
- Facilitate cross-team dependency resolution — identifying blockers, coordinating between squads, and escalating impediments that cannot be resolved at team level.
- Support squad-level Scrum Masters — providing coaching, guidance, and facilitation support to ensure effective Agile ceremonies and team delivery rhythms across both squads.
- Monitor and report ART-level delivery metrics — velocity, predictability, feature completion, and PI objective achievement — providing clear, evidence-based progress updates to programme leadership.
- Coordinate System Demo preparation and execution — ensuring both squads deliver integrated, demonstrable working software at the end of each programme increment.
Continuous Improvement & Coaching
- Lead Inspect & Adapt workshops — facilitating structured retrospectives at ART level, identifying systemic improvement opportunities,
and driving measurable delivery improvement across squads.
- Coach squads, Product Owners, and stakeholders on SAFe principles, Agile practices, and continuous improvement mindset — building Agile maturity across the delivery organisation.
- Identify and address delivery impediments — working with engineering leads, platform teams, and senior stakeholders to remove blockers that impact ART-level delivery.
- Champion DevOps and continuous delivery practices — supporting squads in improving build, test, and deployment automation to accelerate feature delivery and reduce cycle time.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and psychological safety across both squads — enabling high-performing, self-organising teams.
Stakeholder Management & Governance
- Act as the primary ART-level communication interface — providing regular, clear delivery status updates to programme managers, product leadership, and senior stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with Business Owners, Product Management, and key stakeholders — facilitating business engagement in PI Planning, System Demos, and governance forums.
- Contribute to portfolio-level planning — providing ART capacity, dependency, and risk inputs to support programme and portfolio prioritisation decisions.
- Support risk and compliance governance — ensuring ART delivery activities align to organisational delivery standards, change management processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain ART-level documentation — PI plans, programme boards, risk registers, and retrospective action logs — ensuring transparency and auditability of delivery activities.
What We're Looking For
1. 5+ years of experience in Agile delivery roles — Scrum Master, RTE,
or Agile Coach — with at least 2–3 years as a Release Train Engineer in a SAFe environment.
2. Deep SAFe expertise — PI Planning facilitation, ART coordination, programme board management, and Inspect & Adapt — with proven ability to lead ARTs of 10–15+ people.
3. Experience managing cross-team dependencies and delivery coordination across multiple squads in fast-paced programme delivery environments.
4. Strong servant leadership and coaching skills — able to support, mentor, and develop Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and squad members in Agile best practices.
5. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills — able to engage senior business and technology stakeholders with clear, concise ART-level delivery reporting.
6. Proficiency with Agile tooling — Jira, Confluence, Miro — for PI planning, programme board management, and delivery reporting.
7. Strong facilitation skills — able to lead large-group PI Planning events, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops with energy, structure, and impact.
8. Experience identifying and resolving delivery impediments — working across organisational boundaries to unblock squads and maintain ART delivery momentum.
9. Valuable understanding of DevOps and continuous delivery practices — sufficient to support squads in improving automation, deployment frequency, and delivery quality.
10. Strong analytical mindset — able to interpret ART delivery metrics, identify trends, and drive data-informed continuous improvement initiatives.
Nice to Have
- SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification — SAFe 5 or SAFe 6.
- SAFe Programme Consultant (SPC) certification.
- Experience in Financial Services, Banking, or regulated industry environments.
- Familiarity with LPM (Lean Portfolio Management) and portfolio-level Agile governance.
- Exposure to technology delivery programmes — software development, cloud migration, or platform modernisation.
- Experience with scaled Agile tooling — Jira Align, Rally, or equivalent ART-level planning tools.
- Agile coaching certification — ICP-ACC or equivalent.
