Description
As Associate at WSP you will lead and manage mechanical designs within the Water sector. Working alongside the Design Manager, Project Managers and multi-disciplinary team along with mentoring the junior staff within the mechanical team. You will be responsible for overseeing engineering design work and ensuring compliance with best practices and UK regulations.

Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of large schemes and lead smaller schemes within the technical design team, providing technical guidance to water and wastewater project teams.
- Work within the regulated water industry, with opportunities to support projects across other sectors where required.
- Develop technical capability through training, mentoring and project experience, with the aim of becoming recognised as an industry specialist.
- Support project managers in achieving effective project delivery, including coordination of technical inputs, programme requirements and deliverables.
- Work in accordance with corporate and regulatory requirements relating to health and safety, environmental management and quality standards.
- Experience in directing BIM teams, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit or similar platforms,
to produce high-quality project models and design outputs.
- A strong background in engineering design for water company infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets, with technical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Wastewater infrastructure.
- Pumping stations and pressure pipelines.
- Wastewater treatment plants.
- Clean water network design.
- Mechanical equipment selections and supplier co-ordinations
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise personal and team workloads.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with co-professionals and produce high-quality technical reports.
- Experience of leading and working within multidisciplinary teams in the UK and internationally, supporting coordinated project delivery.
- Ability to act as an experienced senior point of contact for development teams and clients on key projects.
- Commitment to delivering the expected quality of service to clients and upholding the organisation’s professional reputation.
Qualifications
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Mechanical engineering degree and professional qualification, with membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Experience in an infrastructure programme and project delivery environment, with experience of delivering complex projects.
- Experience in delivery of projects to an identified budget and schedule.
- Client-facing experience.
- Experience in mentoring or coaching junior civil engineering staff to develop their technical skills and professional development.
