Topdeta (topdeta.com) builds ML training data for frontier AI labs. We're hiring experienced engineers to deliver substantial, well-tested engineering work inside large open-source projects, on a freelance basis.

THE ROLE
We're hiring freelance software developer master in any on of these languages - Typescript/ Python /GO/ Rust/ Java/ C++ to design and build challenging engineering tasks inside real open-source codebases. Each assignment involves deep-reading an unfamiliar production repo, scoping a substantial multi-file feature, implementing it to the repo's standards, and writing the tests that verify it. Full project context, tooling, and guides are shared after onboarding.

REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years professional software developer experience
- Primary language: TypeScript (preferred) or Python, Go, Rust, Java, C++
- Proven experience working inside large production codebases in your language - this is strictly required
- Strong automated testing knowledge in you preferred language.
- Public GitHub profile with real code activity




- Strong written English - explicit technical writing is half this job
- Basic Docker familiarity
QUALIFICATIONS
- Comfortable navigating large, unfamiliar codebases and matching their conventions
- Solid automated-testing experience (vitest/jest, pytest, go test, or equivalent)
- Git fluency (patches, diffs, clean commits);
- Able to scope and finish multi-day engineering work independently

IMMEDIATE-HIRE SIGNALS (GOOD TO HAVE)
- Merged pull requests into open-source projects you don't own
- Open-source maintainer or contributor experience
- Experience leading or mentoring small engineering teams

We are looking for core coders and beyond that, people with the ability to build and manage their own teams as we scale.

PAY
Fixed per delivered task, agreed after the trial, volume and quality bonuses for consistent contributor. The trial week is paid.
