Librarian – Job Description

Job Title: Librarian
Department: Library / Academic Administration
Reports To: Principal / Academic Coordinator

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified, organized, and enthusiastic Librarian to manage the school library and promote a robust reading and learning culture among students. The Librarian will be responsible for maintaining library resources, assisting students and teachers with research and reading materials, and ensuring the library remains a welcoming and well-organized learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
- Organize, classify, catalog, and maintain books, journals, periodicals, and digital resources.
- Maintain accurate records of library books, issues, returns, and memberships.
- Assist students and teachers in locating appropriate books and educational resources.
- Encourage students to develop regular reading and research habits.
- Conduct reading programs, book fairs, library activities, and other literacy initiatives.
- Ensure proper care, preservation,



and security of library resources.
- Recommend new books and learning resources based on curriculum and student needs.
- Maintain a quiet, disciplined, and student-friendly library environment.
- Assist teachers in providing reference and research materials for classroom activities.
- Monitor library inventory and conduct periodic stock verification.
- Use library management software or digital cataloging systems where applicable.
- Prepare library reports and maintain required documentation.
- Support school events, academic programs, and co-curricular activities when required.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Library Science / Library & Information Science (BLIS/MLIS) or equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of library classification, cataloging, and information management.
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with digital library systems preferred.
