ABOUT THE ROLE
Vijayi Bharat Foundation is looking for a foreign expert to join their HPC in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
The Head Coach – Compound Archery at Vijayi Bharat Foundation will play a pivotal role in leading
the development and performance of the compound archery programme, across both men’s and
women’s events, including archers across senior, junior and cadet age groups. The core
responsibility of this position is to deliver world-class performance coaching, establish performance
plans, and ensure that athletes are fully prepared to compete at the highest levels, both nationally
and internationally. Key aspects of the role include integrating training with sports science,
performance analysis, and competition readiness while maintaining alignment with VBF’s vision
and high-performance culture. Other responsibilities include overseeing the progression of athletes
through the talent pathway, providing oversight on equipment and logistics to enable an optimal
daily training environment. Success in this role will require a deep technical understanding of
compound archery, prior experience of producing medallists at global events with national teams,
having exceptional track record of performance development, and the ability to work seamlessly
within a multidisciplinary team. Leadership, high ethical standards, emotional intelligence, and

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performance Coaching
• Conduct regular training sessions for VBF compound archers, focusing on technical skill
development, equipment set up, mental preparation, performance mindset and tactical
strategies.
• Evaluate athlete performance and deliver clear, balanced feedback that combines corrective
instruction with motivation.
• Aide archers in personalised bow set tuning and maintenance of compound-specific (release
aids, peep, stabilisers).
• Ensuring alignment of standards and consistency in development methodologies across the
talent development pathway.
• Provide on-ground coaching support during competitions as well as pre-competition
preparation to VBF compound archers.
2. Performance Planning
• Develop and implement performance plans that optimise the technical, tactical, physical, and
mental development of VBF compound archers, ensuring athletes are fully prepared to
compete at the highest levels, including reputed international competitions.
• Establish IAPs (Individualised Athlete Plans) appropriate to their age, potential, and
performance goals, incorporating essential training camps, qualifying competitions and key
events/competitions.
• Adapt plans to individual athlete needs and ensure interventions are evidence-based.
• Work closely with Performance Managers and the High Performance Director to establish
individualised and roster-wide performance plans, setting short- and long-term goals.3. Monitoring and Evaluation
• Maintain a digital database of training sessions and athlete logs to review progress regularly.
• Monitor and assess athlete progress, making necessary adjustments to plans based on
performance indicators, outcomes and feedback.
• Utilize performance monitoring/analysis tools including but not limited to Dartfish, MantisX,
wearables and AMS for tracking performance, and incorporating suitable interventions.
• Collaborate with the High Performance Director and Performance Managers to conduct
periodic athlete reviews.
4. Integration with Multi-Disciplinary Team
• Work closely with performance partners (support services) to ensure that all aspects of sports
science and sports medicine are aligned with the performance goals of the compound archers.
• Engage with sports science specialists to ensure athlete readiness and athlete welfare, in line
with VBF’s holistic approach to athlete development.
• Integrate data and feedback from performance services and sports medicine experts into
training plans, helping athletes optimise their performance.
• Work with the talent scouting team to identify and recruit emerging talent, ensuring a pipeline
that supports athlete progression from grassroots to elite levels.
5. Leadership and Oversight
• Provide technical direction for the compound archery programme as per global best practices,
ensuring alignment with VBF’s vision, mission and performance goals.
• Foster an inclusive, cohesive, positive, professional and high-performance culture that aligns
with VBF values.
• Contribute to the development of strategies focusing on novel international technical, tactical
and technological trends to improve performance standards.
• Mentor and upskill junior coaches, offering feedback on coaching techniques, athlete
management, and performance planning.
• Lead and manage athletes during domestic and international competitions and training camps.
6. Equipment and Logistics
• Work alongside the Sport Manager to procure suitable equipment for the archers periodically.
• Oversee the allocation of equipment to archers under the programme, ensuring the optimal
utilization of equipment including but not limited to bow sets, arrows and other accessories.• Coordinate with the Sport Manager to plan travel and accommodation arrangements for
competitions and camps.
• Work closely with the Sport Manager to identify and recommend any gaps in the FoP for
enabling an optimal Daily Training Environment (DTE) for the archers.
7. Other Responsibilities
• Maintain safeguarding and qualified standards in adherence to VBF policies and national
guidelines.
• Liaise with external bodies, such as international, continental and national archery federation
to represent the interests of VBF’s programme and its athletes.
• Undertake any other duties as requested by the High Performance Director.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential Requirements
• Graduate in any field from a recognized university OR a highly accomplished former athlete.
• Diploma/Certificate in Archery Coaching from a recognised institute or World Archery.
• Ten or more years of coaching experience in competitive compound archery across domestic
and international eco-systems.
• Proven track record of athlete development and performance (World Cup and Continental
Cup level).
• Strong technical knowledge of compound-specific equipment tuning and maintenance.
• Demonstrable qualified attributes: strong communication with fluency in spoken English,
emotional intelligence, and high ethical standards.
• Satisfactory background check/police clearance in line with the organization’s child
safeguarding policy.
• Confident in using common digital tools for administration, session logging and admin tasks.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, public holidays, irregular hours and travel to
competitions, and camps when required.
Desirable Requirements
• Bachelors/Master’s degree in Performance Coaching, Sports or another related area.
• World Archery or equivalent international advanced coaching certification.• Higher than 15 years of coaching experience in competitive compound archery across
domestic and international eco-systems.
• Diploma or short-course certifications in areas such as Talent Development, High-
performance Sport or Video/Performance Analysis.
• Proven history of producing individual medallists at World Championships, World Cups or
demonstrable success at continental competitions.
• Proficiency in using MantisX, Dartfish or other video analysis tools/software.
• First Aid and CPR certifications.
