Rajiv Gandhi Aviation (RGA) is looking for a UAV Aero-Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to join our engineering team working on the development of an advanced indigenous fixed-wing UAV platform.
This is not a conventional internship focused on minor modifications to an existing aircraft. You will contribute to the platform from the conceptual aircraft design stage through simulation, detailed design, prototype development and testing.
What you will work on
- Perform conceptual aircraft sizing and configuration studies, including wing geometry, performance estimation and aerodynamic trade-offs.
- Develop and refine the aircraft 3D Outer Mold Line (OML) using SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent CAD tools.
- Conduct aerodynamic analysis using OpenVSP, XFLR5, AVL or equivalent tools.
- Perform CFD simulations to evaluate lift, drag, aerodynamic efficiency, stability and flight-performance margins.
- Design structural elements including spars, ribs, mounting structures and composite components.
- Conduct FEA and structural analysis for aerodynamic, inertial and ground loads.
- Perform weight, balance and Center of Gravity (CG) analysis across different aircraft configurations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary trade studies involving aerodynamics, structures, propulsion integration, packaging and manufacturability.
- Support prototype manufacturing, assembly, ground testing and iterative aircraft development.
- Participate in engineering design reviews and clearly document calculations, simulations, assumptions and technical decisions.
What we are looking for
- Students or recent graduates in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong fundamentals in aerodynamics, aircraft performance, stability, structures and fixed-wing aircraft design.
- Hands-on experience with SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent CAD software.
- Experience with OpenVSP, XFLR5, AVL or similar aerodynamic analysis tools.
- Exposure to ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent CFD/FEA tools.
- Ability to solve engineering problems from first principles, rather than relying only on software outputs.
- Familiarity with aircraft-design methodologies such as Raymer or Roskam and aircraft-performance calculations is an advantage.
You will stand out if you have
- Participated in SAE Aero Design, FSAE Aero, UAV or aircraft-design teams.
- Personally designed, built or flown a fixed-wing UAV or RC aircraft.
- Taken a project from conceptual calculations → CAD → simulation → manufactured hardware.
- A strong portfolio containing aircraft CAD, CFD, FEA, design reports or other responsible engineering projects.
We strongly value engineers who have actually built, tested and debugged physical systems. Location: Hyderabad — In-office
Duration: 6 months, full-time
Stipend: ₹20,000–₹25,000/month
PPO opportunity: ₹5–6 LPA
- If you want the opportunity to see your engineering calculations and designs progress into real flying hardware, we would like to hear from you.
