Summary:

The Teacher role at CanKids KidsCan’s Department of Education is pivotal in ensuring that children undergoing cancer treatment receive uninterrupted, high-quality, and personalized education. Operating within a compassionate, mission-driven environment, Teachers play a critical role in supporting the holistic development of children aged 0–19, bridging gaps in formal and non-formal learning during treatment and post-treatment phases. By delivering structured, adaptive, and interactive education through the PEP framework, Teachers foster academic continuity, emotional well-being, and successful reintegration into mainstream schooling.

This role is essential to advancing CanKids’ vision of 100% Access2Care and 100% Financial Protection by 2030, aligning with the WHO GICC and Sustainable Development Goals. Teachers collaborate closely with families, healthcare teams, and educational institutions to uphold the rights of children with cancer to education, dignity, and a fulfilling childhood.

Responsibilities:

- Deliver daily structured teaching sessions using the PEP framework in OPD/IPD settings or schoolrooms.

- Monitor and document student attendance, academic progress, and reintegration readiness.

- Provide individualized instruction and remedial support tailored to students’ health and learning needs.

- Facilitate interactive, experiential, and therapeutic learning activities that promote cognitive, emotional, and social growth.

- Conduct diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and inform teaching strategies.





- Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers to ensure academic continuity and support reintegration.

- Organize and conduct parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) and sensitization workshops on cancer, treatment effects, and post-treatment schooling.

- Assist families in preparing and submitting scholarship applications with complete documentation.

- Update and manage vCAN records for all educational and support interventions provided.

- Coordinate with the Social Support Team (SST) to support holistic child development.

- Prepare and submit monthly student progress reports to the Head Teacher.

- Follow up with students post-reintegration to track ongoing academic and emotional well-being.

Requirements

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field.

- 2–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in remedial, special, or inclusive education settings.

- Proven experience in individualized learning planning, student assessment, and progress tracking.

- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methodologies to accommodate children with health challenges or learning disabilities.

- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coordination abilities with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.





- Proficiency in digital learning tools, online tutoring platforms, and educational software (preferred).

- Commitment to child rights, equity, and the values of inclusion, dignity, and compassion.

Operational Duties

- Design and implement lesson plans aligned with PEP goals and curriculum standards.

- Utilize visual, interactive, and experiential learning tools to meet diverse learning needs.

- Provide structured remedial support to students facing academic delays due to treatment interruptions.

- Conduct regular diagnostic and periodic assessments to monitor learning progress.

- Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, and individual growth for each student.

- Lead outreach and collaboration with local schools to facilitate smooth reintegration of students.

- Participate in awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives related to child education and cancer.
