Key Responsibilities
Engineering Operations and Maintenance
- Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of plant equipment and utility systems.
- Plan and oversee preventive, predictive, breakdown, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Respond promptly to equipment and utility breakdowns, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate electrical and civil maintenance activities across the facility.
- Maintain appropriate inventories of critical spares to minimize equipment downtime.
- Monitor engineering system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Utilities Management
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of HVAC and AHU systems, purified water systems, boilers, cooling towers, electrical systems, instrumentation, PLC systems, and other plant utilities.
- Ensure utility systems operate in accordance with approved procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support energy conservation and utility optimization initiatives.
Qualification, Validation, and Compliance
- Manage the qualification and validation of HVAC systems, utilities, equipment, and related systems.
- Ensure Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification documentation is available and maintained for existing equipment.
- Ensure qualification documentation is prepared and approved for newly installed equipment and systems.
- Support Production and Quality teams in conducting process validation studies.
- Coordinate the installation, qualification, and validation of equipment-related software and automation systems.
- Liaise with the Electricity Board and other statutory authorities to ensure smooth operations and regulatory compliance.
- Support internal, customer,
and regulatory audits through timely preparation of records, documentation, and supporting evidence.
Documentation and Quality Systems
- Prepare, review, revise, and implement Engineering and Maintenance Department SOPs.
- Develop and maintain SOPs for engineering utilities, including purified water systems, HVAC, AHUs, cooling towers, boilers, and electrical systems.
- Prepare and review annual preventive maintenance and calibration schedules in consultation with user departments.
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of engineering records, equipment history, qualification documents, calibration records, and audit documentation.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with approved SOPs, quality systems, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Projects and Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate engineering projects related to plant, equipment, and utility modifications.
- Support the Plant Head in identifying, evaluating, and procuring new plant equipment and machinery.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders during planning, installation, commissioning, and qualification.
- Review technical proposals and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, operational efficiency, safety, and compliance.
Procurement, Inventory, and Vendor Management
- Raise and follow up on purchase requisitions for engineering materials, equipment, and services.
- Verify work completion and coordinate the processing and follow-up of vendor payments.
- Identify, assess, and develop recent vendors and service providers.
- Manage contractor activities and ensure work is completed safely, effectively, and within agreed timelines.
- Maintain effective inventory control for engineering spares, consumables, and utility requirements.
- Prepare annual budgets for maintenance spares, utilities, projects, and other engineering needs.
Team Leadership
- Lead, train, guide, and motivate engineering and maintenance team members.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance to ensure timely completion of maintenance and project activities.
- Develop team capabilities through structured training, coaching, and on-the-job learning.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, compliance, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Relevant experience in engineering, maintenance, and utility operations within a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing HVAC, purified water, electrical, instrumentation, PLC, boiler, cooling tower, and other utility systems.
- Practical experience in preventive, predictive, breakdown, and shutdown maintenance.
- Knowledge of equipment and utility qualification, including IQ, OQ, and PQ.
- Experience with calibration planning, validation support, SOP preparation, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Experience coordinating with statutory authorities, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Previous experience leading a multidisciplinary engineering or maintenance team.
