Role Description This full-time, on-site Mechanical Design Engineer role is based at Universal Power Equipment’s facility in Chennai.

The Mechanical Design

Engineer will develop and refine mechanical designs for switchgears and related power equipment, including components and assemblies.

Responsibilities include creating and updating CAD models and drawings, performing design calculations, selecting materials, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The role involves collaborating with manufacturing, quality, and electrical engineering teams to support prototyping, testing, and production, as well as resolving design issues and implementing design improvements.



The engineer will also prepare technical documentation and provide engineering support throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong skills in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering, with a solid understanding of fundamentals and industry standards.
- Candidates should possess skills in Machine Design and Product Design to develop reliable components and assemblies for power equipment applications.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in Computer-Aided Design solidworks tools for 3D modeling, detailed drawings, and design revisions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in designing industrial or power equipment, switchgear, or related products is an advantage.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry codes, with robust problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication, collaboration skills, and the ability to work on-site in cross-functional teams in Chennai.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, tolerances, and material selection for mechanical components.
