Role Purpose

To lead the end-to-end procurement function for the plant, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality-compliant sourcing of materials, equipment, services, and critical spares. The role will drive strategic sourcing, supplier development, commercial optimization, procurement governance, and supply continuity in alignment with business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement

- Lead the overall purchase and procurement function for the plant.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business, production, maintenance, and project requirements.
- Drive strategic sourcing, category management, supplier rationalization, and cost optimization.
- Ensure timely procurement of critical raw materials, consumables, spares, equipment, services, and project-related requirements.
- Identify opportunities for localization, alternate sourcing, value engineering, and import substitution.

Commercial & Cost Management

- Lead commercial negotiations with key suppliers to achieve optimum cost, quality, delivery, and payment terms.
- Drive cost reduction, value creation, and procurement savings through competitive sourcing and long-term contracts.
- Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and supplier cost structures to support sourcing decisions.
- Ensure adherence to approved budgets and procurement policies.

Supplier Management

- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.
- Lead supplier evaluation, qualification, development, performance monitoring, and rationalization.
- Ensure supplier adherence to quality, delivery, commercial, and service-level commitments.
- Develop alternate and contingency suppliers for critical materials and services.





Procurement Operations

- Ensure effective management of the complete Source-to-Pay / Procure-to-Pay cycle, from purchase requisition to purchase order and delivery.
- Monitor procurement cycle time and ensure timely closure of purchase requirements.
- Coordinate closely with Production, Maintenance, Projects, Stores, Finance, Quality, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure effective coordination between Purchase and Stores for inventory availability and optimization.
- Resolve critical procurement and supplier-related issues impacting plant operations.

Governance & Compliance

- Ensure strict compliance with procurement policies, delegation of authority, commercial procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure transparency and fairness in vendor selection and commercial negotiations.
- Lead procurement audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Ensure proper documentation and contract governance.
- Drive digitization and process improvements across procurement operations.

Team Leadership

- Lead, mentor, and develop the Purchase team.
- Establish clear performance objectives and KPIs for the procurement function.
- Build procurement capabilities in strategic sourcing, negotiation, category management, and supplier development.
- Drive a culture of accountability, integrity, cost consciousness, and continuous improvement.

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Metallurgy / Production / Industrial Engineering or equivalent.




- MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain Management / Procurement / Operations will be preferred.

Experience

- 18–25 years of overall experience in Purchase / Procurement, with significant experience in a senior procurement leadership role.
- Solid experience in steel, metals, heavy engineering, mining, power, or other large-scale manufacturing industries.
- Proven experience in managing large procurement spends and complex supplier ecosystems.
- Experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier development, and cost optimization is essential.
