About Realty of America

Realty of America is a fast-growing, technology-first real estate brokerage. We support 3,300+ agents today and are scaling rapidly toward 5,000 and beyond. Our internal team has grown to roughly 80 staff across operations, brokerage, onboarding, agent experience, finance, and product engineering.

We build our own internal tools, including our core platform Rex, alongside integrations into best-in-class third-party SaaS such as Brokerage Engine, SkySlope, Close, Follow Up Boss, RealScout, and others. As we scale, we need a strong engineering leader to own delivery, architecture, and team health for the systems that run our business.

Why this role exists

Rex and our surrounding platform are the operational backbone of a brokerage scaling past 3,300 agents. As agent count and staff headcount grow, engineering complexity grows with it. We need someone who can own a team end to end: set technical direction, hold the line on production hygiene, push back on product and business where needed, and build a team that gets stronger over time. This is not a ticket-execution role. It is ownership of outcomes for the areas under your team.

What you will own

Engineering Leadership

- Facilitate discussions and lead decision-making on all engineering aspects of your team.
- Define and execute engineering plans for the areas under your ownership.
- Drive engineering best practices across the team.
- Define, implement, and maintain hygiene of production systems, both engineering and process, for your areas.

Business & Delivery Ownership

- Own the health of the business functions directly served by your team.
- Challenge product and business on outcomes, channel feedback into execution, and be accountable for engineering output.
- Manage all relevant stakeholders, including business, product, operations, and clients or vendors.

Team Building





- Hire, mentor, and retain a best-of-class engineering team.
- Build a team culture around ownership, technical rigor, and accountability.

Architecture & Systems Design

- Design and develop solutions ranging from simple to complex, including large-scale distributed systems where relevant to Rex and its surrounding platform.
- Drive design and architecture of multiple subsystems alongside other senior engineers.

What we are looking for

Required experience

- 8-10 years of software development experience, including 4+ years leading teams.
- Proven track record designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
- Proven track record building and managing high-performing software development teams.
- Practical experience driving design and architecture of multiple subsystems with senior engineers.
- BTech, MTech, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Required ways of working

- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to a variety of audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Judgment and initiative. We are looking for someone who proposes, pushes back, and owns outcomes, not someone who waits for direction.
- Willingness and proven ability to work hours that overlap meaningfully with US Central Time.
- Comfort being accountable for both the technical and business outcomes of your team's work.

Nice to have

- Past experience with startups or other fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- Real estate, fintech, or other regulated-industry software experience.
- Experience scaling a platform through significant user or transaction growth.
