Role Description The Engineering Intern role at VOICE OF THE WILD is a volunteer, on-site position based in Tamil Nadu, India. The intern will assist in designing, testing, and maintaining simple engineering solutions that support conservation and environmental initiatives, such as field equipment, monitoring tools, or small-scale infrastructure.
Day-to-day tasks may include data collection, basic analysis, documentation of technical processes, and collaboration with team members on project implementation. The intern will also contribute to improving existing systems, ensuring safety and reliability, and supporting field operations and logistics as needed.
This role offers practical experience in applying engineering principles to real-world environmental challenges while working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge in engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, or related fields).
- Ability to perform basic technical calculations, data collection, and simple analysis using standard tools or software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical mindset for building, testing, and improving tools or systems.
- Basic proficiency with common engineering or productivity software (e.g., CAD tools, spreadsheets, documentation platforms) is beneficial.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in on-site, field-based environments.
- Interest in environmental conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable practices, with willingness to learn in a hands-on setting.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Ability to be present on-site in Tamil Nadu, India, and adapt to outdoor or field conditions as required by project activities.
