Role
- Own the embedded electronics development, integration, testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance of an assigned product, working under the Embedded Team Lead.
- Each engineer will be responsible for maintaining technical ownership of one or more products throughout its development and post-deployment lifecycle.Role & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Product Development
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware for assigned products.
- Implement microcontroller/processor-based control of product subsystems.
- Support electronic architecture, component selection and schematic/PCB design reviews.
- Perform PCB bring-up, firmware integration and board-level debugging.
- Integrate sensors, motors, actuators, cameras, illumination, pumps, valves and other product-specific subsystems.
- Develop communication interfaces between embedded electronics, software and peripheral devices.
- Support prototype development and engineering builds.
- Participate in EVT, DVT, PVT and pilot-production activities.
- Support design optimization for manufacturability, reliability and serviceability.
Product Ownership & Maintenance
- Maintain technical ownership of assigned product electronics and firmware.
- Maintain released firmware versions, configuration files and engineering documentation.
- Investigate and resolve product issues identified during production or field deployment.
- Perform structured root-cause analysis for hardware and firmware failures.
- Implement approved firmware and hardware modifications.
- Support engineering change implementation and verification.
- Maintain product-specific test procedures and troubleshooting guidelines.
- Track recurring field issues and recommend design improvements.
- Support obsolescence management and alternate-component qualification.
Testing & Verification
- Develop and execute electronics and firmware test plans.
- Perform functional, integration, reliability and regression testing.
- Verify communication interfaces, sensors, actuators, power systems and embedded control logic.
- Document test results, observations and failure analysis.
- Support product verification and validation activities.
- Support EMI/EMC and electrical-safety pre-compliance testing.
- Ensure design changes are tested before production release.
Production & Deployment Support
- Support production during PCB testing, product assembly, integration and calibration.
- Develop or maintain production test procedures where required.
- Train production/service personnel on technical troubleshooting.
- Support installation and commissioning of products at deployment sites.
- Participate in clinical validation and field-testing activities.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware/firmware issues reported from the field.
- Provide technical feedback to improve subsequent product revisions.
Technical Expectations
- Microcontrollers and embedded processors.
- Embedded C/C++.
- UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet.
- Analog and digital electronics.
- Basic schematic understanding and PCB design review.
- PCB bring-up and board-level debugging.
- Component selection and replacement qualification.
- Power supplies, DC-DC converters and protection circuits.
- Battery, charging and power-management fundamentals.
- Stepper motors, DC motors, servos, solenoids and actuator control.
- Sensors and closed-loop control.
- Pumps, valves and basic flow/pressure-control systems.
- Firmware debugging and hardware-software integration.
- Git/version control.
- Oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters and standard electronics test equipment.
- Engineering documentation and structured troubleshooting.
Preferred
- Experience in biomedical instrumentation, medical devices, diagnostic equipment, laboratory automation or regulated products.
- Experience developing and maintaining a commercially deployed embedded product.
- Exposure to production engineering, product validation and field deployment.
- Experience troubleshooting electromechanical or fluidic automated systems.
- Prior client-facing exposure, including installation, commissioning, product demonstrations, troubleshooting, training and field support.
- Positive client references/testimonials relating to previously delivered engineering projects or products will be an added advantage.
