Electronics Hardware Design Engineer (Avionics)

Domain: Spacecraft / Satellite Avionics
Experience: 2+ years (minimum) in satellite / spacecraft hardware
Role Summary
Design, develop, and validate avionics PCBs and custom interface cards for satellite systems, with end-to-end ownership across power, digital interfaces, and FPGA-based subsystems. The role spans schematic design through reliable board bring-up and test, working closely with firmware and systems teams in a space-grade reliability environment.
Responsibilities
- Design schematics and drive PCB layout coordination (Altium / KiCad) for satellite avionics boards
- Design custom interface cards: requirement capture, architecture definition, connector / pinout design, signal integrity, and integration with host avionics
- FPGA hardware design: device selection, power sequencing, I/O planning, configuration / boot interfaces,
and supporting FPGA bring-up alongside the firmware / RTL team
- Power design: DC-DC selection, protection circuits, filtering, and rail bring-up
- Interface design: UART / CAN / RS-422 / 485, sensor I/O, isolation and level shifting
- Board bring-up: rail validation, ripple / noise characterization, current profiling, and FPGA configuration verification
- Debug hardware issues at board and system level; coordinate closely with the firmware team on FPGA and embedded integration
- Own BOM, test checklists, and design revision management
- Apply space-domain reliability practices: derating, part selection rationale, and design margining
Must-Have
- 2+ years of electronics hardware design experience in the satellite / spacecraft domain
- Strong electronics fundamentals (analog / digital + power)
- Proven experience designing custom interface cards (concept through validated hardware)
- FPGA hardware design experience: power and clocking architecture, configuration / JTAG interfaces, high-speed I/O considerations, and FPGA board bring-up
- PCB design workflow experience (schematic + layout coordination)
- Hands-on debugging with DMM, oscilloscope, and electronic loads
- Robust component selection and datasheet confidence
- Motor / actuator driver experience
- EMI / ESD design awareness
- Harnessing / connectors and ruggedization for prototype systems
- Exposure to space-grade / rad-tolerant component selection and qualification
- Familiarity with high-speed digital design (DDR, LVDS, SerDes) supporting FPGA interfaces
